You have to include when it started, nowhere at the start of the 70s but got better when Platini, Rouchteau etc arrived in the mid '70s. The match against Argentina in 78 was fabulous and they grew in confidence, hence dangerous in '82.

It should be 70 - 76 simply because quite a number of players in the 1970 WC Semifinal team played in the '72 & '74 finals along with the same manager even. Beckenbauer, Maier, Muller, Overath, Hottages, Grabowski etc with some additions - some of them started in '66 even again with Helmut Schoen as manager. The above program did show some clips from 1970. Only an observation but the team progressed as a dangerous side for quite a few years into 1972 when they truly dominated. I do like to know how teams get to the top, not just when they're at the top.
