Simmons is the kind of player you have to tactically accommodate for him to be EFFECTIVE. He plays in a different position with Leipzig and he does well.

@@FootballOranje Not the one you asked but I think it would be interesting to see Xavi next to a striker (either Memphis or Brobbey) in a front 2 and have Koopmeiners behind him. Then Xavi and Koopmeiners could switch positions, pressure the defence and act like a modern/upgraded version of the Memphis-Wijnaldum tandem from Koemans first stint. Anyway this takes time to train and with Koopmeiners uncertain to even be fit, Xavi should just come of the bench this tournament.

I love Dumfries and he has been great for Oranje, however Frimpong should 100% start. Him and Geertruida on that right hand side are made for each other.

Does this team BELIEVE it can win? Italy started the tournament last time beating Turkey 3-0. They looked like they believed they could win. I have never seen that from a Netherlands team. My first tournament memory is Italia 90 just after Netherlands won their only trophy. At what point do we mention the 'P' word?!?!?!

If the midfield holds up, Netherlands will do very well because they have the best back four in the tournament.

The goalkeeper situation seems settled with verbruggen,when cilessen was picked in 2014 lots of questions about him and it meandered for quite a while with lots of keepers coming and going.

With De Jong out and the number 6 being the most important position in the team in modern football who is the player who should replace him at number 6? Used to be a destroyer position now has to be the most technical player to receive the ball from the back 4 and break the press.
