That was a great video. Lots of twists and turns and nice full explanation. Classic example of a watch that was probably re-born in Malaysia but is none the worse for that.

Spencer - THANKS SO MUCH! Your work is so beautiful. Thank you so much for the effort. I am SOOOOO thrilled that the chrono wheel is A-OK!This poor old veteran has certainly seen some action. My mom found this watch at a jewelry store going-out-of-business sale back in '75 or '76 for $35 bucks as a Father's Day gift for my Dad. How fitting!!!! Anyway, he HATED the watch, way too big and cumbersome for his tastes. So, as a freshman in high school, I took to wearing it. My wrists were so puny, the watch case was actually wider that the bones in my wrist. And I've been wearing it ever since. I changed out the original bracelet back in the '80s and I lost it in a move. (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!) When it comes back home, I have a pecan-colored 3-holed leather drivers strap for this darlin. I gotta say, I have 0 clue as to the mysterious movement other than: about 10 years ago, I sent it to a watchmaker in Georgia for service. Prior to him, the minute eye would never reset to 0 and 2 or 3 other watchmakers had tried and failed to remedy. All I can guess is that my Georgian chucked the old movement and replaced it with the new. Not long after he sent it back, first the stop watch failed and then the whole watch stopped. Then he kind of fell off the map so it had been sitting in my drawer for years until I found you. I'm guessing the odd yellow hand came in with that work as well. I seem to remember in one of your videos, you recommend leaving the stopwatch running by default and resetting it when the second hand gets to 55 or so when I want to time something. I need to think about the yellow versus orange second hand. I'd love to see what commenters have to say. Thanks again for the gorgeous job! Kev

Viton is indeed used as an alternative for Buna-N (that isn't just dumb rubber, but a man-mad polymer). It's ok to use these in situations where you need to close/seal something. It isn't advised to use them on moving parts, as Viton is harder and has a different durometer and is more abrasive than Buna-N. Paddy

Looked like a nice job but i don't understand why you are leaving fingerprints on the movement and seals, why aren't you using finger cots?

I have a 1972 6138-0017 I bought from the original owner and it has the same movement in it he had it serviced twice at Seco New York once in 73 and the other in 1990 and never had the movement replaced said it was the original.

Hi Spencer, many thanks for all your very useful Seiko videos. When you come to the setting up of the watch at the end of your videos and you say "I'm just going to adjust it" on the timeograph, could you please show what you do on the watch to adjust the beat error and the plus or minus time error, because all we see is the improvement on the timeograph screen. Also, are you taking on restoration work as I have a number of watches that need your expert help. I'm in the UK. What sort of turnaround time do you have? Seiko model numbers 6138-0011 UFO and Seiko 6139-6014? Thanks. Tony
