I owned 1/2 of N3212T C177 from 1992 till 1995. Great airplane. Ours was a 150HP that was later upgraded to 160HP. Lots of room inside. Agree on doors are windsails. I trust it had the elevator mod. The elevator on early versions stalled before the wing causing hard nose wheel landings. We discovered a cracked firewall on ours that needed to be replaced.

Oh my gawd that is a B E A U T I F U L Airplane! We had a 1958 Cessna 172 when I was a kid. I learned to take off, fly and land this airplane when I was 10 years old because my Dad was 58 when I was 10 and said if anything happened to him in flight he wanted me to live and to get on the ground to possibly get him help.

Lucky buyer of this aircraft as one of the other “unicorns” in Canada was written off last year sadly. My understanding is the FAA will not allow this upgrade again as it exceeds 25% increase of the original HP (150).

@@themechanic568 It was one of the two 177’s converted in Canada under an LSTA (Cdn equivalent of an STC) with the Cardinal RG engine (the US conversions used the Mooney engine). You can probably search most of it’s history on the CFO website by searching for its ident WXO. I met the owner and saw your Cardinal I just after he completed the refurb. Beautiful plane.

Unfortunately it’s a one time STC. It was only granted to this SN. This is the only FG in existence that has this. The others are done with 337s I do have the binder with all of this information and pdf files of the work accomplished.

@@themechanic568 Thank you for your reply, I’ve been looking for this type of STC for sometime for my C177B. Any technical data would be greatly appreciated. Would it be fair to say that with the engineering specs I could apply for my own STC through my engineering provider? When you say 337, what are you referring to?

Beautiful airplane. If have flown 150, 180, & 200 HP models. That’s slick putting the RG engine in the fixed great frame. What do you flight plan that plane. Did it up the useful load and gross weight? It’s probably a great instrument platform. Where’s the VSI? Thanks for making the video.

@@themechanic568 I'm with on that. I fly in the DC airspace (FRZ and SFRA) and all the rental planes have either a Sky Beacon or Tail Beacon. It makes good economic sense. I have a Sentry for Fourflight to get the in stuff. The plane I normally fly is in the shop at the moment, a friends, and he had a 345 installed so I can use that or my Sentry. That's a stunning Cardinal I only wish I had the ability to buy it.
