Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans

Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans

Күн бұрын

As it was another nice day here in my native Carmarthenshire,West Wales. I decided to take "Llew" for a walk across the sand bars and estuary channels to see how the winter storms had affected the sea pools I use to catch flounders by hand, and to check the pools for small shrimps and sand gobies (fish) . I also surveyed some of my foraging spots for Marsh Samphire and Wild Fennel. It looks like it's going to be another great year. As it was too windy to cook on the shore,I decided to take my catch home and cook it in my kitchen. As I was alone with just "Llew" for company ,I filmed the outside footage myself, hence I do not appear in the early part. My son Dafydd then filmed the cooking process.

Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans my 4yr old daughter and I are such massive fans of your videos. We live in Fiji, right across the beach and mangroves where we forage a lot as well. I'm so inspired by your educational and adventurous videos! My little girl and I have learned so much and I'm so proud of her when she is able to identify our native marine life. Thank you for your time and patience and sense of adventure! We love You!

You are very welcome Michelle, I find it heartening that you are teaching your daughter about your native marine life, because without this knowledge future generations may not have the respect and care required to save their environment from development ,pollution etc. It is an ambition of mine to visit your beautiful islands, kind regards Craig

You know this could be a show on the outdoor life network. You should consider pitching the idea. Or someone like Jamie Oliver the chef. You go out and share your wealth of knowledge and tell him what it I'd and what it tastes Luke and have him make up a fish from all forage ingredients. I would watch that all day haha. Amazing video Craig. As always. Cheers from Canada, gradyn

Love your videos Craig. i love a good forage but my knowledge no where near compares to yours. i've learnt so much watching your videos. Do you have any recommendations of books or other channels where i could improve my knowledge further? That omelette looks delicious. Try sticking it under the grill to finish it rather than flipping it. it will puff up the egg and make it lighter without scorching the already cooked mussel meat etc with direct contact with the pan. i'm a chef by trade so just a little tip there. it helps it look nicer on the plate too :)

Thank you for the tip borkthebasher. There are quite a few books on foraging, but the best all round book I can recommend is "The Edible Seashore " by John Wright. A great read for the beginner and more.Regards Craig

Mmmmm. Flounders. Fried flounder is one of my favourite fish dishes. Alas, since i live far, far inland i can only really taste it while on vacations :) Still, the thing i envy you the most, is incredible biodiversity you have literally in arm's reach. So many interesting animals and plants thanks to Atlantic :) Our almost landlocked pond of Baltic Sea has nothing on your area.

Hi, Craig. I am an avid follower of your channel and collect your recipes. Thank you so much for teaching how to forage wild edibles/ I have a questions, dear. Regarding the little fish, do you clean their gut out first before cooking them? I was not able to see those things clearly in the video and you didn't mention them. Lovely seafood omelet. Cheers! looked like a first rate omelet ! never tried sand gobies before... I don't think I see them here . reminds me of sculpins & stickleback . have you eaten thoughts ? I may have to try. Your video was interrupted by a long beach walk. foraging for spruce tips, columbine nectar. & some spruce pitch mixed with shredded cedar bark for a fire starting compound... this morning I mostly finished a cooking video... :) & I was able to test 5 pieces of gear I made recently ... a steamer being one of them... I've definitely got to make some of that powered shell... shrimp will have to suffice for lobster . some how i don't think crab would do ... fish bones & fins do very well. thanks for the tips Craig.

Thank you again Nomadic Oasis,I've never tried sticklebacks. The small sand gobies are here in their billions in the estuary areas and really easy to catch with a hand net. Your interruption sounds great.Crab,Prawns and Shrimps work equally as well to make the powder.Regards Craig
