Foraging Blooper - Pine Resin

In search of a more calorie rich foraging option for winter I located and sampled pine resin. It was not very pleasant, see what happens. Even though the experience overall was somewhat negative I still think pine resin could be a calorie rich option for the winter if it's prepared in a better way.

Haha the same thing happened to me, tried it a few weeks ago. A good tip if you have it stuck on your hands or in your mouth is to wash with pure grain or vodka alcohol. It dissolves pretty fast. Apparently the resin is really good for cleaning teeth though, I think the natives also used it to seal cavities and wounds too. I make a tincture out of it

that would have been nice to know. lol. I wonder if you mix it with flower or oil or something if it would be better.

I dontt have much experience with oils but I do know that resins are only soluble in pure alcohol. I don’t think there’s many people using it as medicine this way but it’s def fun to think outside the Box. I read about a lady who cured her cancer by freezing the resin and then putting into capsules. I guess that’s another way to use it

@@billjim334 that's really interesting about the capsules. I always read that pine and spruce resin were used as chewing gum by indigenous people. Ya right!! I think that's one of those things that just got passed down but isn't true.
