I appreciate the information, but I don't think it's necessary to rip them out of the ground and tear leaves off to show us what you mean. I'm not one of those nuts, but it says a lot about someone if they're careful and gentle, vs., tearing it up and throwing it out thoughtlesly - I'm glad it wasn't an animal. My best.

I have what looks like sumac but I asked someone and he doesn't think it is the poison, itchy kind. I imagine the rash would be the same as the one you get from poison ivy so if you messed with sumac and now have a rash look and make sure it is not that. Maybe get a friend who is not allergic to plants of that variety to inspect it. If it works the same as poison ivy I imagine there will be a sheen to it.

My first experience with misidentification of Staghorn Sumac I was at Plymouth Plantation back in the 70s. I was around eight years old. I knew it was a Staghorn berry cluster. The cashier in the lobby did not. I told her what it was. She didn't believe the little kid. I told her "I am going to take this home, soak it in water and drink it like a pink lemon aide. If it is poison, it is on me". I walked away with my aunt shrugging at the cashier saying, "He knows his stuff".

Thank you. There is a lot of contradictory and misinformation online. This was very thorough.

So, from what I listened to, there are a couple of facts you got wrong there bud...sumac is commonly found in my state (Michigan), It can have hairs or appear fuzzy, it doesn't need swampland to grow, and the leaves can be serrated....actually thats kind of a lot you got wrong there....lol where did you learn these facts you learned..? Eagle Scouts 1982? Yeah, information has been since updated..

Question, was the strong flavor of the white pine, a pine flavor? Basically just like what one would imagine it might taste like?

A few weeks ago I got poison sumac from my dog at our property. I’ve never had Posion ivy before and had no idea what it was. My eye ended up closing 95% and went to ER after urgent care shot did nothing. Now I’m terrified it’ll happen again!

I think my favorite part of this video is the rating of flavors. Most people just talk about the nutritional value. I live in southern california tho so I'll have to do my own taste tests on local trees

In south east asia, torned apple is pretty popular. Slice the fruit small, put into tea pot then enjoy. This fruit will make you hallucinating for 2-3 days depend on how much you consume.

🌲🍬 PINE CANDY Y'ALL!! Shred the cambium (inner bark) into bite size pieces then soak in maple syrup or honey over night in a mason jar, lay out to dry on wax paper, while still wet, spinkle with salt, cinnamon, cocoa powder, tiny bit of tumeric (optional), then let dry. U can do any variety of spices u want, u can do meat rub spices to make it more savory like jerky (I've even used smokey bbq sauce 🤤) or the syrup or honey with sweet spices for sweet pine bark. I've even made a salted caramel one that came out delicious! Enjoy nature & only try to take cambium from recent fallen trees or if u do it to a tree that's still healthy don't peel in one big spot do it in little sporatic spots so the tree can recalibrate its health. 🌲💚 & Remember to walk lightly in the spring 🌱 Mother earth is pregnant 🌍

I am quite confused because you refer to Douglas fir and fir as if Douglas fir isn’t a fir tree. Please educate me! 😅
@EatThePlanet2 ай бұрын
Yes, I should have better clarified. Douglas fir is not a true fir. True firs are in the genus abies. Douglas fir is in the genus Pseudotsuga

Just if u didnt know yet, some infos. :) The inner bark is also called "phloem" and its where the tree is transporting mainly sugar (produced by the leaves) down to the roots. (Xylem=wood brings up the water from the roots). Im very interested in survival food and study botanics. If u cook the phloem, the sugar dissolves into the water -> sugar water. I wouldnt eat tooo much directly, cause u cannot digest the fibers -> constipation. I have an assumption, would be interested what you guys say. I think you could eat every phloem, of plants that arent toxic. (the taste is something different). What do you suggest? greets :)
