your "lookalikes" are Suillus, here in Europe I pick them up when ever I find them, the texture is a bit too soft for being "excellent" - but if you dry them they fit really well into pasta as a meat substitute.

Hi May I ask what kind of habitat should I look for?
@beesoung10 ай бұрын
@@NimmiPonte Boletus edulis grows on soil beneath trees, notably beech and birch, and less commonly oaks as well as pines, spruces and occasionally other conifers. You can find them on the Oregon and Washington Coast in late September and early October after a good rainfall

The other mushroom looks like it's from a suillus family.

I live on Vancouver Island so a similar climate to you. What elevations are you finding these at? I spent the past five weekends in the bush and haven't come across a single one

Beautiful! What was the process you went through to determine that there would be King Boletes to forage at this area?
@beesoung10 ай бұрын
Usually during the fall season when the weather is wet for a few weeks, that's when these mushrooms start to pop up at sea level
@mmmmmray10 ай бұрын
How many days would you say they pop up after a rain in ideal conditions?@@beesoung
@beesoung10 ай бұрын
A week after a good rain
@mmmmmray10 ай бұрын
I've read it to be about 10 days but they never specify if it'll be a button bolete by that time or a gigantic bug infested bolete by then. Hoping to find some this week when I go out! :)@@beesoung

Nice finds. I need to find an area like that. Whenever I stumble upon one, it's always riddled with worm tunnels. For example, just today I found four very young Queen boletes, and the bugs had already beat me to them. So frustrating. I managed to find a serving of hedgehogs at least.
