I long for the day when I recover from this problem. I'm South African. I recently went through my old MRI reports and found that it had picked up “attenuation neural foramina” due to an old spinal fusion I did in 2002. Some 10 years later no one has presented me with any solutions beside rib blocks which provide short term relief

Great work here Dr. Tony. I have dealt with this for 15 years now, failed back surgery (L5-S1, spondy, level 1 repair), with a plethora of other segments that have issues, many over 15 years, with degeneration on additional segments, over time. I think you've done a great job explaining this and wondering if you could answer a couple of more specific questions on my case (albeit, relating to your general diagnostic approach and opinion) for me anytime soon?

Hello Dr, In the last eight months or so, I've gone from starting out having numb buttocks, then my legs, and now my entire body. August 30th, I went to get up from my chair to go into my kitchen, and absolutely nothing happened! I just sat there! This was so scary, and lasted a few minutes! I was so freaked out that I'm not sure what was going on with the rest of my body during this time. I have SEVERE scoliosis, I've been told it's "triple scoliosis". My x-rays are horrid! I am a 66 year old female, who also suffers from fibromyalgia. I am just 114 lbs and 5'2". Could this be foraminal stenosis, in your (virtual) opinion? Thank you. Susan

10:33 How can the field use pain and weakness interchangably? They are very different phenomena, and I don’t buy that they have the same cause. In particular there is a sort of research consensus that nerve pinches can only cause weakness and numbness. Then if that was true, and most people undergo spine surgery because of having pain, I wonder what the long term success rate is. Maybe it is only considered the last resort because it’s not very successful in relieving pain. You rarely hear of surgeries being a last resort, most others are quite popular. Maybe the successful ones are the ones where the nerve is damaged during surgery, which is a documented risk.

I was diagnosed with Cervical Foraminal Stenosis and severe Cervical Radiculopathy recently, I’m a 33 year old female. My arm left feels all but shut down and in pain most of the time, mostly in my hand and elbow, and recently my right arm and shoulder have been causing me pain and discomfort, especially after I wake up in the mornings. Both of my hands usually take a while to wake up fully in the mornings. I really don’t want to do spinal injections, and have an appointment scheduled with a surgeon in January for consultation. I’m scared and don’t know what to do. I live in Montana and getting help here is really hard, because we don’t have very many surgeons or doctors here.

It's not unusual for back muscles to spasm in an effort to hold things still. The body thinks that holding things still will prevent the pain from getting worse.

I have been suffering with pain, tendons machine like pins and needles feeling though out my buttocks and all of my right leg since 1998, this now has gotten to the point that i feel it at all times and numbness feeling though out the whole leg. my legs give out from underneath me with out warning. one moment my legs are there the next they are gone feeling this is where i ended up on the ground with out warning. it now is affecting my left leg as well. for the past 3 years it has been non stop all the time. also in the past 3 months been affecting it is now affecting my toileting areas. severe bilateral neural foraminal stenosis due to bilateral facet degenerative L3 L4 ,L4 L5, S1. what would you suggest would be the best thing for treatment after injections , drug and therapy treatment has not changed the symptoms. I am 46 years old.

What is the question ? You describe severe foraminal stenosis with back and buttock pain - you don't have to have leg pain. Decompression is good option.
@Rene-uz3eb
@Rene-uz3eb Жыл бұрын
L5 and S1 nerves go to the legs and feet, not the buttocks, right? This would point to somatic referred radiating pain from the l5s1 facets, though if the pain is worse in the buttocks I would say DVT which can also cause back pain
