Based on questions that arose from the Force USA g15 vs. G20 video, quite a few audience members asked where the G12 fits in with the all in one trainer lineup.
I was surprised to find that the G12 had a couple advantages over the newer G15.

I went to Force HQ yesterday and after trying the 1:1 on the G12 and the 2:1 and 4:1 on the G15 I hands down went with the 15. In person the 15 looks more modern if that makes sense, I love the shelves, and it can go light enough for my wife and plenty heavy for me. Also I can do the cable Flys much more comfortably than I thought I'd be able to (I'm 5'8").

Great. Review Steve. Been shopping around for a multifunction rack with the Smith Machine and you have definitely been instrumental in helping me get closer to making a decision on what I wanted to get. Quick question though that I haven’t seen anyone post…. Are you able to do incline presses with the Smith Machine bar? I mean is there enough room back there to be able to do that both with the G12 and G15? Thank you
@StevieRichardsFitness
@StevieRichardsFitness Жыл бұрын
Yes you can definitely do incline presses on the smith machine. It’s a tad tight for me at 6’2”, but I still have full range of motion and my elbows don’t touch the uprights at all. I use the smith machine for flat, incline and decline presses without issue. I’ve had similar experience with the G12 as well. The G12 is the better deal. 1:1 pull ratio. I do rows at 150. When I get stronger, I still have 50 pounds to go.

I wish they had made the G15 with 1:1 and 2:1 ratios instead of 2:1 and 4:1. I need a 1:1 ratio for lat pulldowns and seated rowd, and 2:1 ratio for cable exercises. If they use 10 pounds plates on the weight stacks, the 4:1 ratio is pretty much useless unless you are a 4 year old, a 95 year old or doing phisiotherapy!! Besides, ForceUsa can easily make ANY machine a 4:1 by simply adding 2 removable weight plates of 5 pounds or 2.5 pounds!. You only have 10 pounds plates and want a 12.5 pound weight for cable exercise? Just put a 2.5 poud plate on top of the weight stack. Done. I wish they can make it 1:1 and 2:1. And also that they create those said removable plates of 5 and 2.5 pounds. Can you please pass this feedack along?

Totally agree with this. I got the G12 recently because it was in stock but was contemplating the G15, but was thinking a 1:1 and 2:1 would have been the perfect setup. Also, totally agree they should make a 2.5 pound clip on weight for all of the G series models which would make them so much more flexible in terms of increments for non compound lifts. You want the heavy weight for rows and lat pull downs but the smaller increments for curls, flys, tricep extensions etc…. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the G12 but if we looking for perfection, then this is it!

@@TyMcAuley what else don't you like about the G12? Being 6'3" I feel I would be too tall for pull-ups and make to big to do cable flys comfortably

Will the G-15 fit with a height of the ceiling beams at 85 inches and with 16 inches between the rafters. I am trying to determine if the unit with the cables at top of the unit will fit between the rafters and not interfere with the unit in any way. Thanks.
@StevieRichardsFitness
@StevieRichardsFitness 2 жыл бұрын
The height of the G15, at its highest point, is 87”. The exterior width is 80”. With your rafter spacing, I don’t believe it would work. That’s the main issue I had with our last place. The ceilings were low and it limited what I could choose. If you find a space that works and decide to purchase anything, please use my link: www.forceusa.com/stevie

One question that I have with the Force USA machines is the use of the smith machine. Are some feeling a little constrained due to the width? Also, for the machines that have the weight stack right behind the bar, does that force you to only use it one way (your back or head is by the weightstack and your're facing outwards instead of choosing to face in or out).

Great points about the smith machine and even most of them in general. I’ve made a suggestion to Force USA of possibly creating an all in one trainer without the smith machine. There are people out there that would love the extra interior working space.

@@StevieRichardsFitness I actually really like the smith machine additions as that gives you a lot to work with and good for not having a spotter (personal opinion). The G20 looks like you could use the smith attachment from any direction while the G12 looks to me like you always have to have your body outside the machine. No big deal but I'm just always used to facing the machine when using smith machines. The G15, looks like it could go either way depending on what you're looking for. I would have liked the G15 better if it had 1:1/2:1 ratios instead of 2:1/4:1. I am very glad to see that Force USA sells professional assembly for every one. Smart move.

@@rvg202 Yeah, the smith machine is great. I’ve got a G12 and am a first timer on smith machines but find it very versatile and safe. No problem at all with width - I am 6 foot and have plenty of space. No problem facing inwards or outwards on standing exercises like squats, but I believe the force USA fid bench can’t get in far enough for incline type presses.

ive had the g12 for a yea now gets used twice a day and its been awsome everything you want to your abole to to do or figure out a way to modify to do it my favorite thing odly enough has been the bar height for the adjustable j hooks and catch arms for olympic bar almost every bench setup i have used the abr is either 2 inches to hi or to low to setup comfortably and this landed right in the sweet spot down side i dont like the knee hold down for the lat pulldowns its jsut not securing with how much it wobbles lol

Thanks so much for the detailed comment and great points about the G12. I feel like the lat pulldowns are always going to be a weak point with the footprint height being lower than other brands. However, the benefits of having more gym spaces being compatible is a great trade off IMO.

@@StevieRichardsFitness its only the knee pad portion that is wobbly since it doesn't have a positive lock to hold it in place the machine is solid even with me doing 200 lb lat pull downs
