Wow! Great Video! I Ike the way you explained things as you go! My I Ford 5000 power steering assembly has been leaking bad for several years, so I am trying to put in a seal kit. My assembly looks a lot different than that! Mine is not a row crop and appears to be built in 1973. I can’t get my assemble off the tractor. I think I have all of the bolts out. So I came on here to see some videos about it.

As you said, quite the mess. For the wheel and shaft, you have a lathe. A generic wheel with a taper fit mated with a longer shaft would do a treat. You'd need to make a stop collar as well. For the pin retainer rings, I have used safety wire in the past. There needs to be enough clearance for the twist to lie down, but around one groove, hook to the tag end with a latch knot (like lacing a harness) and over to the other groove, around, hook there, and twist the tag ends. Also, fear not an old steering wheel. I bedliner coated the wheel on my '49 Deere. Holds up fine and hides the sins of the weld repair to the spokes.

I view a number of mechanical oriented videos and often wondered why the owners presenting the video's hardly ever use a liquid wrench or penetrating oil type product sprayed on bolts or fittings before wrenching on them to break them loose, in my mind they are risking breaking or damaging them all together. It is a cheap application which in my mind and experience works. Even soak them when really rusty for a day or two before wrench on the fitting.
