Ford - Cars With a Future. Seemingly endless 2 minute commercial that displays Ford's entire range. Included are such classics as the white Escort XR3i driven by a blonde, shifty looking car thieves with perms and that well remembered 'Supercar', the Ford Sierra Cosworth. They don't make 'em like they used to, and you'll be glad of that after watching this.

I remember this one as it was in one of the advert breaks of a James Bond film that I had taped on ITV. How times have changed though, can you imagine any company producing a 2 minute advert and running it on network TV these days? I remeber wanting my Mum to buy an XR2i.....she got a Metro.

I never drove a Cortina, but I bet it was a neat car. Ford in Dearborn needs to see this ad and start offering the items from this ad in its cars for the U.S. market, instead of worrying so much about trucks and SUVs.

peteblax I was staying at Glengarry Castle Hotel when it was being filmed. Was one of the hottest weeks' on record and the rain was faked. I was in the room with the turret watching. That was June 1986. Funnily enough I am staying there now for the first time since then!

I agree, even though I work for a competitor; I still drive a Ford, and it's the best car I've ever owned! It's a shame that Ford won't bring the 4WD systems and its "insta-clear" windshields back!

The mid 80's was the best period for Ford cars, they had something for everybody, any lifestyle and any budget. Today, Fords are boring.

anthony perkins today, Fords are like most other cars. Overly complex, full of sensors and computers. Too much to go wrong, and of course prices are high because of all the tech in them.

Cars with a future - all I know is that European Fords of 1986-1988 vintage were serious rust raisers. Did anyone spot Cassandra out of Only Fools and Horses driving the white XR3i, and the late Anthony Quayle doing the voiceover.

lol beautiful - i love the way the beginoning of the advert - the future cars actually look insanely retro lol - originally the ad was designed to make the car it was advertising be appealing as a second best thing to the intro yet nowadays it looks better than the original thing! Plus its ford so its beautiful anyway - who the heck would want one of those crappy looking things on the intro of the ad!

I would have foregone all of the innovations in the ad for decent rustproofing. I bet every one of the cars featured were scrapped by 1995. Such a pity, as they were all really great cars.

Well, here in the north of Spain we have a REALLY cold and foggy weather. When the fog it´s dense your windscreen will be always getting wet from the outside, but not enough for the wippers can clean it nice. In these cases, a heated windscreen will keep the exterior dry and help a little. The same like if you turn the heater on at max temperature. But... yeah, the fog will still there. Don´t forget that at the beginning of the 80´s that type of "extras" were not very common. CheeRS m8!

Nice one. I've owned two Fiesta XR2s, great fun and reliable but with one major problem and that's rust. I wonder if ford have changed now and sorted their rotting cars out. I changed to Vauxhalls as they were reliable and seemed to be stronger.

Ford had the patent/rights to it, some expensive vehicles obviously paid Ford to use it but your regular manufacturer/brand wouldn't have been able to justify the cost. At least Ford didn't restrict it to their bigger/more expensive vehicles, my Grans '00 Focus had it fitted as part of the climate pack.

Does anyone have the Ford Transit commercial from about year ago? It featured the song "Disseminated" by Soul Coughing. I just thought it was a brilliant advert. When I heard it on the telly, i'd run from the kitchen to see the people dancing in the streets. SOMEONE must have recorded it.

"They don't make 'em like they used to, and you'll be glad of that after watching this" I picked up on the sarcasm of that comment but Id totally have to disagree. Fords were and are still good cars overall and have been great pioneers in the automobile industry. The Sierra was an absolute revelation when it came out way back in 1982 It has just from another planet. So futuristic and seeing it now in 2019! It still looks very modern and fresh. It replaced the much loved more angular Cortina and by the very end the Cortina, in many ways was almost the perfect car, However the Sierra was faster. more efficient and was totally sealed from the outside environment. Even air that entered the car's cabin was filtered and purified. So if you had hay fever or some other respiratory problems/issues the Ford Sierra was good for your health!. I would sit in my Sierra and switch the engine on just to get some fresh air into the car! At the time St Thomas' Hospital and commandeered several Sierras to help patients by sitting them in these cars and having the engines switched on to purify the bad air outside entering into the cars' cabins.
