Oh this is a fun customer complaint on his 2015 Ford F150 EcoBoost:
"My battery is DEAD in the morning...only after driving in the RAIN!"
WHAT??
I can't recreate the problem, but there are some interesting codes stored:
P0620 Generator Control Circuit
P065B Generator A Control Circuit Range/Performance
Let's do some research on what might cause this weird intermittent battery drain in the rain...

Totally agree with the U-TUBE videos; being a mechanic from the now "dinosaur" days, getting to replace the cabin air filter on my 2006 Subaru Outback would have been VERY lengthy if not for someone posting a video(very few nuts, but lots of "snap-in" fasteners that aren't readily visible)

This is exactly how I fixed our cars for the past 10 years. :) Before I found you and eric O and scanner danner, etc. etc.. This is all I had. Forums and youtube videos.. If I couldn't find the wiring diagrams in google images, then I'd be in trouble. :) .. I've come so far since then in the past 3 or 4 years watching all you guys. The internet is such a valuable place when it comes to communities like this. I appreciate you brother.. You're a good teacher, and you guys are helping a lot more people than you realize. cheers --to more in the future.

An interesting observation, pre repair, charge voltage 15.1V. Post repair 14.4. The 15.1V was a big red flag, talk about toasting the battery. :)

Its pretty common for newer cars to boost the voltage up to 15v occasionally as part of their smart charging strategy, I believe that the scanner said the desired voltage was about right.

My go to on a situation like this is to split an old radiator hose and use a foot or two piece of hose to slip all this harness in and keep it shielded over brackets like this and bending around corners, etc.. and Then I'll tape that shut. I've never had to go back on a repair like that again. Being shielded inside a thick rubber hose tends to keep wires safe for the life of the car-- even around hot exhaust. I make sure you tape it up well so it doesn't let water in.

That same location on the 4.6 & 5.4 had a problem where when the passenger side motor mount would wear out and cause the engine to drop and pinch the crank senser wires between the a/c compressor and frame. Its a super intermittent stalling and crank, no start problem that will drive you and the customer crazy. If you aren't aware, you might want to note it.

Yes , there's less overheads involved running a workshop that size by yourself. The employer who I worked for 20 years ago converted his old dairy shed into a workshop where he could rewind & overhaul electric motors which worked out well because he was working for himself. He's was an electrical fitter/mechanic by trade whose now retired & he was making more money out of doing that & repairing commercial laundry equipment than he was out of running a dairy farm. The farmers were only making $0.02 AUD per litre out of the milk !

Since you already have a business license to do car repairs, and you are very close to neighbors, you should be able to get a zoning variance to enlarge your garage area. If you are not adding more impervious area (asphalt or concrete parking) you should be okay to ask for a zoning variance. It would help if you get your nearest neighbors to provide a letter or sign the variance application saying that they do not have an issue with what you want to do.

Hi Ivan, I found your site a number of weeks ago by accident -(KZfaq Algorithm). In my dim and distant past I trained as an auto electrician in the british army working on Armoured vehicles and trucks ( Bedfords) and Land Rovers. In comparison to the stuff on the market to day the electrics are very simple - no CAN bus, dynamos, mechanical regulators etc. I still sort out my own vehicles where I can but obviously they are not that simple. I have learned so much from you - thank you for the detailed diagnosis and showing your methods. I like to try and guess what you are going to find. In this case I though it could be the generator rectifier bridge partially short cct. What I learned is that generating system are not as simple as they used to be, in fact I believe that vehicles are over complicated. Keep up the great work and best wishes from the UK.

Great video again Ivan - reminds me of of a Mitsu Shogun with a speedometer fault, had checked sender unit & wiring all seemed OK in plastic conduit. Turned out to be a broken wire inside the perfect conduit where it crossed over the chassis & was properly secured by a P clip, the clip was too tight around the loom & this light wire in with heavier wires gave up. It's a known fault on them but as you say it's nice to know you're hunting in the right direction when you start ripping.

So, we can conclude that you are dissatisfied with one of those two counties. I have had serious issues with zoning, myself. The big clue i saw at the beginning was overcharging. Anytime voltage is 15v I get concerned. The customer had a throttle body code with generator codes, and the customer replaced the throttle body without addressing generator codes. Isuzu had many transmissions replaced cause of 15v. I got involved with a buyback from GM over this. When i checked codes, only transmission codes. However, I noticed 15v, so I replaced the voltage regulator and then diagnosed the transmission only to find all codes gone. It created a recall on the Rodeo for voltage regulator replacement as lots of transmissions were on backorder.
