We toured this plant last summer, but they only showed us one corner of the production floor. The cabs were already on the chassis getting interior work in one area, then we saw doors and beds, then final assembly/drive off. It was awesome getting to see earlier steps in the video.

I toured the Rouge final assembly plant in Dearborn and was totally blown away with the workers, automation, and how it all comes together in the end.
@ddkoda4 жыл бұрын
The degree of automation is astounding. Of course there's still a considerable amount of human effort necessary to achieve the final product. This facility has to be state of the art in truck production. Could you imagine the reaction of Mr. Henry if he could see this production line?

the lowest paid job at ford is $15.78/hr. i've had some jobs where there is zero downtime. 10+ hours on your feet. some places rotate so you don't wear out your body doing the same thing 500+ times a day. for example i've done 640 cars in a shift of 10 hours giving less than a minute per car. it's more demanding than you may think.
@Bladerunner49247646 жыл бұрын
Place I work at is similar. They make automotive compressors for the AC and our total product number may vary depending on the demand by the big 3 but my line is Chrysler and on a good day we crank out 900-1,000 parts, on a really good day we may hit 1,200. On our feet the whole shift but we get to rotate between 8 stations, 2 hours at each one for either 8 or 10 hours, depending on the demand. Yeah, it's monotonous but it pays decent.

1:20 Isn't that a little hard on the aluminum block to smash the engine into the frame? All the 150's I've owned were built in Kansas City, have they combined assembly plants now? Personally I'll take KC over Detroit any day
@thearcher17404 жыл бұрын
I mean an engine isn't a glass museum piece. Its gonna get jostled around for 10-30yrs/200k miles through ice/wind/desert and impacts. Just the stress of a taking a pothole at 70mph is like 100 times the impact you're referring to at 2:20. Not even taking into account the abuse these trucks take if they're part of industrial service on an oil field or back woods with no roads
@markk36523 жыл бұрын
I've owned an F150 from both Dearborn and Kansas City. Both trucks were outstanding in regard to quality, fit, finish, reliability. Ford doesn't make a bad truck, from the Ranger all the way up to the F750. Ford is the only brand to carry the sales leadership record for the span of time that it has, and it's the only brand I consider to be the true definition of a truck.

It was rumored that Ford will sell people videos of their vehicle being assembled if they supply the VIN since apparently the assembly line is constantly recorded anyhow in case of mishaps. It would have to be a fairly late model vehicle I'm guessing like 1990s+.

How come no pictures of the plastic oil pan or the plastic intake manifold ?
@thefordmaniac5 жыл бұрын
Everything nowadays has a plastic intake manifold. If you are referring to a plastic oil pan.. that was early Mexican plant built 6.7 diesels...in the super duties not the f150s...any way the 6.7 diesels no longer have a plastic oil pan...not because it cracked from stress...it is because the quarter turn easy oil drain valve would leak. If you're going to comment at least know something about the subject. Thank you.

DirtyHarry G Yes, Ford was the first to use an assembly line, however no one in the industry would ever argue that Toyota perfected it. The Toyota assembly model is used globally in almost every aspect of manufacturing and assembly, it’s even being used in healthcare, it’s even extending to education. The US manufactures are aware they are roughly 15 years behind in the game, which is why only 1 of the big 3 remains American and that will be lost within the next 10 years.
