In this video I will show you how to perform a Mode 6 scan (Mode $06) using Forscan. Mode 6 is helpful for diagnosis of misfires.

Thanks a lot. I have intermittent misfire. Maybe know I can find the weak power pack. I'm still looking for how to test my ECU/ECM to find out why my SMART charging system is not charging my new battery and alternator.

Does the ECU on a 1998 Ford Explorer record misfire data for each cylinder or is this car too old for that? I can find total number of misfires on a bidirectional scanner but no cylinder number record. And I've looked in mode 6 but test 53n the misfire one, isn't available. Same issue when using a computer-based generic OBDII scanner.

B Scott. What hose was bad to fix the idle. Its the issue im having but im not getting any miss fire readings .

Loose coil pack connector. They tend to come loose or the tabs get brittle and break.

for some reason forscan will not show me the OBDII Mode 6 option when i go into the vehcile test menu. Super weird,

Do you know of a scanner that I can purchase that will give me access to LIVE misfires on a 2004 ford mustang? I bought a cheap $100 scanner that gives me mode 6 but problem is it doesn't track it live and when it shows a misfire in a cylinder I have no idea when that misfire was recorded. I am chasing a very intermittent idle only shake that I believe to potentially be a misfire and I want to rule that out by getting live data. If when the shake happens and I can see that there are no live misfires then I can pursue other potential causes like engine mounts/harmonic balancer etc.

Check out the Autel MaxiAP200. Lots of features packed into that little device and it supports live scanning. I used it on my Toyota to program new keys and remotes. Does it need to throw a code for you to get an alert on the scanner of a miss fire

No. Unless the misfire is bad or constant the code wont trigger. Mode 6 will show it.

Hi! I experience the same..two mechanics says no trans problem..last one scanned and show cilynder 4 misfire ford escape 2.0 2015 But not check engine..only check for catalytic and rich o2 My cars when hard acceleration seems to bump and stop accelerate for 1 second and continue...no clunk or any tranny symphtoms... Two weeks before i change the spark plugs maybe the mechanic damage it..i dont know
