Good video. I have a Nevada 97 F-250 7.3 Heavy Duty trailer special I bought in January 1998 with only 121K miles, no rust, one owner. This truck has been the best vehicle i've ever owned. Used only for trailer towing. Original everything, no mods, original brakes. Only in garage for regular maintenance since 1998. The only bad issue is the turbo boost flapper valve. It is lazy and slow in the winter starting. Sometimes throws a back pressure code. I have another OBS 1996 F-150, same cab as diesel only 5.8 motor. This is my desert beater 4X4 with 250K miles. 5.8 runs great , but as all old vehicles has oil pan leak and rear seal issue.Replaced front end ball joints and power steering pump this year. Plan on replacing or rebuilding the Windsor. Simple heavy machines that last when taken care of. My kids will get these trucks as I'm in my late 70's.

These engines will reach close to a million miles with very good maintenance, the 6th digit on the odometer will not go past 3, so when it reaches 399999 it will just go to 300000. It is like this on all OBS fords

TechDroid Today well as of 20 years of being very involved with all ford diesel trucks from the idi 6.9 to the current 6.7 Powerstroke I myself, nor any other tech, service advisor, manger or engine builder I have ever met none of us as ever seen a 1 million mile international 7.3l diesel. Also every person that sells these trucks acts like the motor will make that mileage no problem and it’s simply not true but if you no of one that went 1 million miles that was never rebuilt or had any major repair I would love to hear about it. And the 99-03 trucks have a analog odometer which doesn’t reset. Still never see one with 1 million miles thanks for watching

Shaun Bennett so I searched and found one video with the ole timer saying he has 1.3 million miles but no others. I did see a video with Powerstroke help.com shop truck spot that had 910,000 on it but it had a camshaft that failed @ 750k and was repaired with parts from other engines, so I will stand by my comments that I nor anyone I’ve meet in the business as ever seen a million mile ford 7.3l in person or ever new anyone who has, not to say it doesn’t happen or exist there’s always exceptions to the rule, my issue is every person selling a 7.3l Powerstroke acts like they all will hit a million miles no problem and unfortunately people buy into that myth and find out that it’s not the truth. They fail all the time for a number of reasons, case in point my late 99 with 160k miles had a block fail due to coolant cavitation I was the second owner and it was a total shock but it happened nonetheless
@centraltexasfoxbodies4 жыл бұрын
@@notchback93 you're right, I've never personally seen one either but it has happened, and engines do let go for no apparent reason. And I also completly agree to try and find a completly stock truck when buying, my truck had a hacked up exhaust but other than that it was stock, never chipped or tuned. It's now been transformed into a totally different machine.

My Dad's 7.3 (bought new in '99) has 582k on it with the original engine. My mechanics main shop-truck (also a 7.3) has 921k. Just because you haven't seen any doesn't mean they don't exist. Your 400k number would probably be a good number to shoot for, but it's, by no means, the ceiling. Anyway, good video, and that's a nice truck you have there.

All the OBS Fords I've owned needed the oil and trans pans replaced due to rusting through, I also live in the Midwest. If I remember right, to do the oil pan you have to take out the motor mount bolts and lift the engine out just slightly. Other than that they were pretty solid.

I got it for a steal because of mis-matched bed color and cracked core support, other than that it's a solid truck. I did a 6637 filter as the only mod as i'm getting it caught up on maintenance. Would like to do exhaust on it to help it breath better, but other than that, no other plans. Oh I have a chip too because the factory shifts are heck on the E4OD clutches. Yeah but they aren’t selling for that, it’s like that with the turbo Buicks,mustangs and certain year Camaro also, people figure they can ask the sun moon and the stars these days for certain vehicles. Don’t shop on eBay or bring a trailer best place is honestly local listings that’s where I found my OBS, it was 60 miles away!

Obs is from 87-97
@notchback933 жыл бұрын
I don’t consider the the brick nose style 87-91 to be a true obs just my opinion the general public expect to see the 92-97 front end when you call it a obs but that’s just my opinion
@FastLanePros3 жыл бұрын
@@notchback93 the only difference is the grilles. The body style of the square body's ended in 86 so that brought the obs. The obs body ran from 87-97 with no changes except the dash and grilles along with bumpers but to each his own. Not knocking you, great informative videos. I just recently got a 90 model dumped in my lap so I was searching obs videos and came across yours. Beautiful trucks you got there.
@notchback933 жыл бұрын
@@FastLanePros well if someone was selling a obs truck and I showed up and saw the brick nose style I wouldn’t consider that a true obs and I feel that most the general public would feel the same,the video is more geared to those people who know a little bit aren’t dissecting all the little minor details

Why not use it? A grocery truck? I sold my 2004 F-150 for $12,000. Bought a 97' 7.3 for $3000, a 58' John Deere 440 bulldozer for $4000 and a 10 ton trailer for $4000. Used the extra $1000 for tires and brakes on the 97' Best money I ever spent. They were built to be worked, not chipped, lifted show trucks.

I don’t understand the point that you are making but I’m happy that your happy with your purchases 👍🏻
@Snowcat-rg7bz3 жыл бұрын
@@notchback93 Just that it was built as a work truck and I see a lot of people chipping them and lifting them. To each his own, but I was simply stating that mine is a work truck and I love it for that.
@notchback933 жыл бұрын
@@Snowcat-rg7bz ok I understand what you are saying, I agree that they are purpose built and more for use and working but now they have elevated to everything from shows trucks to more performance based “built” trucks and everything in between its just the way things go

@@notchback93 And I understand that kids are buying them and modifying them. So they will spend more than I would. I'm a 61 year old accountant, so different rules. Tomorrow I use the Ford to tow my newly acquired 85 Alfa Romeo Spider. When I'm not doing anything it's my Kawasaki. Every vehicle has a purpose.
