07:46 Verdict
Ford Australia is known here as the Mustang and Ranger brand, but that's unfair to the SUV range the brand is building, which is a competitive set of models across different size brackets. While you might be able to level the criticism that the Ford Escape isn't very interesting, the same can't be said for the Ford Puma, which our man Andrew Chesterton has just spent three months getting to know.
Chesto reckons that being interesting is vital in the small SUV segment. There are literally dozens of light SUV and small SUV choices out there, and not all crossover models put fun, excitement and interesting design at the top of their to-do lists.
The model Andrew spent time with was the mid-spec ST-Line, which is a pricey little unit, but offers plenty of tech, safety and fun for the money. After coming out of competitor compact SUV models such as the Mazda CX-30, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue, Chesto reckons this Ford Puma ST-Line could be almost the right fit for him, his wife and their dog Poppy. Sadly, Poppy didn't make an apperance this time around.

I'd love a comparison between the Ford Puma ST-Line and the Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo. My parents recently purchased a Puma and I wasn't a fan of the rear space, without a sunroof and at 180cm tall I found myself look at the headlining rather then out the window. I also found the interior quality was a step back from previous model Fords such as the LZ Ford Focus.

I thought one of the dislike would be lack of manual transmission + PHEV engine.

Drove one.....loved it. What's funniest is that 400 people bought a Venue.....they should really have bought the 48volt mild hybrid to Australia. The big wigs at Ford Australia really are a bunch of dimwits.

Nice. But leather is a bad idea in cars. You will be happier with fabric in the long term. A smaller car could justifiably be pricier than a bigger one depending on the amenities, construction, performance, build quality etc being superior to those of the bigger one. At least I believe so.

You didnt mention the huge list of issues with these cars, The extremely thin paint; All pumas have ridiculous paintwork that easilly chips. The door cards rattle. The windows rattle. The battery has a persistent issue and needs replacing by Ford. The infotainment screen is laggy and suffers from updates that make it worse and often needs restting. The electric windows constantly need manual resetting to use normally. i could continue

How is this a LONG TERM review? What insights did you get from a long term period? Not a single thing in this review was long term oriented.

The Focus Active is the better purchase, I've said it before that Ford Australia pricing is ridiculous and Ford Australia can not blame the AU to EU currencies as Romania where this vehicle comes from is not part of the EU and has it's own currency which checking shows 1 AUD buys 3.14 Romanian Leu, so the reality is Ford can easily sell this particular Puma ST-Line at $26,990 and still make a profit on each and every one instead it's chosen to boost the price way to way and be greedy about. Shame on Ford Australia.

These are rubbish vehicles and what makes it worst is ford’s service policies. Bought a brand new Puma. After only 1900 miles the clutch goes!!!! No replacement vehicle was given for the duration of over two weeks and was charged £989 for the replacement. How sad is that? FORDS are Rubbish.

Everyone wants to extract funds out of every one KIA and Haundai are the only two companies giving you a genuine guarantee. Very frustrating
