I'm a fairly new subscriber, I finally came over to check out your videos after several name drops by AndyMechanic down in NZ. I'm already picking up some of your little sayings though! I work on buses over here in Scotland, I'm currently doing the routine 28-day and 42-day safety inspections. As an example, when I'm under a bus looking for a suspected fault and I find it, I'm already exclaiming "There's your problem, lady!". I can't use a can of brake cleaner without hearing your sound effect in my head. And there have been a couple of times where I've thought to myself "I could do with Eric's Big Nasty to help me out right here". Thanks for your entertaining content, and I particularly like the way you do real in-depth diagnostics to identify a fault. That's something that many garages are guilty of not doing, and I have to admit that bus garages seem to be particular culprits - the pressure is on to get the bus back out on the road earning money quickly, so sometimes the diagnosing isn't even remotely thorough. One final observation: How on earth do you manage not to swear on camera?!

Eric, I just watched some of an 'Eric the car guy' video' per your introduction. To me, and I suspect to many of your viewers, the big difference between you and others who do car mechanics on KZfaq is all in the presentation. Bottom line you are not in any way shy about letting us get to know you as a person and actually making us feel that we are right there with you while you work. IMO this is no a small thing. I could expound further, in more detail about this but I will not because I feel it isn't necessary. Your viewers know what I mean. Just wanted to give you some positive feedback and let you know once again how much I appreciate you and your videos. Hey, I'll call you later ;-)

@@utuber2940 I disagree, I like both Erics, it's not easy putting yourself on camera like they do, it's kind of like being up on stage. And both have made a point of showing their mistakes for the world to judge, which I respect. But SMA would definitely appear to be the busies and perhaps more professional if you want to compare. Cheers.

Back when I graduated from tech school and was hired as a fresh faced tech of 23 at a large gm dealership that handeled all of GM's car lines, carburetors and the early feedback carbs were slowly being replaced by fuel injection and computer controlled spark and timing, and obd1 was still in it's infancy. Obd1 was helpful, but most of my diagnostics were done by test light, volt and dvom meter, vacuum guage and even the old snapon diagnostic lab scope for checking sensors and looking at firing patterns. With these it also required Sherlock Holmes style deductive reasoning to find the problem. I started as a drivability tech. While I was able to find problems fairly quickly, there still were some that were head scratchers, and me and the service manager had to wrestle with a fair time for diagnostic and repair, because I had to get enough to support my family, we couldnt charge the customer hours of diagnostic time. Todays scanners make this hard job much easier than I had it

In my case, I relieved the fuel pressure on my 2000 Explorer as shown online, and I still got a bath. I suppose that what appeared to be factory at 272K miles was a bit clogged up because the output had no pressure but the 65 PSI was holding steady on the input side. That explains my hesitation.

I was wondering if you burnished in new shoes or pads. It’s kind of a lost practice. I generally burnish in the service brakes too. My general procedure is 4 medium pressure slow downs from 35 or 40, then a couple of hard stops from 40 to 45. My last stop is from 45 and is classified as an emergency stop. On a car with modern ABS, it’s enough to make the ABS pump chatter the pedal. Then I try to return to the shop with as little brake engagement as possible, let them cool down and give it back to the customer if it passed muster. Great vid-jo as always sir. Peace and chicken grease, Brian
