Great vid, like all your others, your an inspiration & love your channel. I have a quick question, does the dimmer switch still dim the led’s? I drive a lot of back country roads and while I love the bright look of the LED’s most of the time, I sometimes bring them down to dim to make night driving easier on the eyes. I still have regular bulbs in but considering led replacements because of 1 being out and having to get back there anyways! Thanks

Thank you. Yes, the dimmer switch still works perfectly 👍🏻 I’d recommend only changing the illumination bulbs and not the indicators.

I had to replace my headlight switch cuz when I picked up the new girl, a 2000, I tried to turn on the fogs as I did in my 2001, by pulling the dial out. The 2000's don't work like that. Knucklehead. The color green is a combination of blue and yellow, called complimentary colors. If you take separate blue- and yellow-colored glass or thin plastic, place one over the other, and put a light behind the 2 pieces of glass you will see a green color. There are other complimentary colors, too. The reason why you may see a bit more blue with green may be because of the color density of one color over the other. There are other possible explanations as well. Your point of just minimizing the risk of damage is a very good point in any repair. Thanks for your well explained video.👍

That light switch appears to be removed the se as my 99 f150, the process is: Step 1. Turn headlights on Step 2. pull knob towards you (fog position on such equipped trucks) Step 3. use micro screwdriver to pop knob off fascia Step 4. Turn knob 180 degrees, so that the back of the knob (where you inserted the screwdriver) is now pointing to headlight icon, press onto switch to reinstall. Step 5. Turn knob to off position and in (fog lights off) Step 6. Turn headlights back on. The little fingers on the back of the knob should now have those tangs retracted so you can pull the switch out of the dash.

That headlight switch is actually really neat the way it comes out. If you give the knob a slight pull there is a tiny hole underneath for a small screwdriver to release the knob. Once the knob is off, you take the knob and put it on upside down and turn it, and it’ll pull that spring loaded locking pawl in, and the whole switch comes out from the front. Basically the knob is a secret key/removal tool.

Just a heads up the headlight switch itself is it’s own removal tool all you need is a pocket screw driver turn the lights all the way to 3 position then slightly pull the headlight switch out you should see an opening close to around 7 o clock to insert pocket screw driver and then the knob then slides of the rotate the knob 180 then rotate will then active the release of the switch

Excellent video! They aren't really "directional" - it's a matter of LEDs being polarity sensitive, so positive and negative voltage have to be correct. That's why you might have to rotate them 180° sometimes. I was confused at first, but then I saw that clarified on the Amazon product page.

Thank you. This is an important point that I initially missed. Later I realized that there was a + &- symbol on he LEDs. Makes sense because diodes (the D in LED) allow current flow only in one direction base on polarity. I had a fifty fifty chance and had to pull everything apart again and check and swap them to all be the same. A quick test and a perfect job. Very happy for everyone’s help. Thank you again

Cause I had two empty spots... the 'THEFT' light and one other one didn't have bulbs in them. After unsuccessfully searching the factory service and owners manuals, I had to call the dealer. I was told that the other bulb is a F7LZ-13B765-BA. It is 1/4" in diameter. A few pointers to add, After changing my illumination and idiot lights Some of the holes in the back of the cluster come from the factory empty, If you are uncertain which ones are blank they will have no scratches on the silver tracing under the bulb holder. Secondly most led bulbs are made by the chicoms so If you reverse polarity and it still does not work you likely have a bad bulb always get more than you need. Thirdly not all of the indicator lights come on in the accessory position some only light up when cranking, Anything else can be checked by opening the door, turning on the flashers, etc. EDIT My indicator lights are now glowing faintly all the time this can only be seen when it is dark, also the turn signals and high beam indicator are to bright for night driving I really like the brightness of led but they are not dimmable I will be going back to halogen.

Hey. I know it's been a couple of years since you have done this. But by chance could you let me know where the parking indicator is bolted up to. Mine broke so I'm trying to find out where it hooked up.

Hey I see you still have the cup thrower style of cup holder. Have you updated to the new style yet? I'm driving a early 99 7.3 and I was stoked to get the more secure version. I have learned a lot from your experience thanks.

There is a better way to take out your headlight switch what you do is Turn headlamp switch knob to the headlamp ON position and pull the knob out. Insert a thin tool into the slot at the base of the knob to release it and pull the headlamp switch knob off. Position the knob and with the bottom end toward the headlamp ON position and push on shaft. Turn the knob counterclockwise until the back of the knob is in the OFF position. Turn the headlamp switch knob clockwise fully, remove the headlamp switch from the instrument panel and disconnect the electrical connectors. I think I explained it correctly. But by removing the knob and reversing it and then putting it back on the shaft and turning it, it pulls in the spring clips that hold it in place and lets you just pull it out. Its like a 15 second task. Follow removal procedure in reverse order when installing the original switch.

Interesting.... I’ve never heard of that method. I’ll have to give it a try. My switch does not pull out at all because I don’t have fog lights. Do you think this is specific for fog light equipped trucks?

Great informative video content! I have a bulb out for my environmental controller switch. You’re right, there’s not a lot of videos to remove the dashboard. I had to replace my factory trailer brake controller. There was only one video but it had a pullout container which I didn’t have! So, thru trial & error I gently got the dashboard removed. I was praying the whole time that I didn’t crack the dashboard! No fun at all! Any suggestions for fixing my ‘05 6.0L driver’s side window? Luckily, it stopped working in the up position. Are there tips/ways to check the switch & motor? Thanks for all you do making your videos! Even tho I have a ‘05 6.0L, a lot of your mods are universal for the Powerstroke. With you, Nick (Fix it Nick) & Cody (Powerstroke Project) all of you guys have 7.3 but I have learned so many universal mods! Thanks again

Unfortunately there is not a lot of good ways to work on the window motor while its inside the door. If it were my I might try to sneak in one of those light testers and see if it is getting power to the motor when its supposed to. Other than that you'll probably have to just pull it out and test it manually.

Great video. What year is your truck? I have a 2002 and am wondering if my light switch will be different from yours from your description. I was hoping later in the video you would show what the turn signals and high beam looked like. Are the LED's dimable? Keep up the good work.

Thanks. my truck is a 2000. I'm not sure which years had what switches. I only replaced the illumination bulbs with LEDs so all those indicator lights look the same. Yes, the ones I used are fully dimmable.

the 194 led's that you got were they white and just cam out green because of the tint?? the bulb that popped up on amazon (the 194) the only option is WHITE....

That is correct. I tried colors but because of the green tint they didn't turn out looking nice. Unless you strip the tint I'd recommend sticking with white LEDs

I have a 2000 Ford F-150. I am replacing the instrument cluster lights with blue T-5 LED bulbs. The T-5 LED bulbs are polarity. When I install a LED bulb in the high beam indicator, I only get the LED to light up when I pull back on the left side turn-signal stalk or lever. When I push the stalk forward toward the dash so that the high beams are on all of the time and also for the high beam indicator light bulb to stay on all the time, I get no LED light at all. When I reverse the LED bulb polarity, I get no high beam indicator light at all in either direction. Does your T-5 LED bulb for your high beam indicator light up in both directions, forward for full time high beam or reverse (towards you) just to flash oncoming cars to warn them of a cop up ahead or whatever? I'm thinking I may have to use an LED bulb that is non-polarity, works in both directions like the factory original bulbs. But I do not see for sell on Amazon or EBay to where you can buy only one LED T-5 bulb that is non-polarity. Let me know on your truck if your high beam indicator light works in both directions (forward and aft or reverse). Thank You!!

Probably not what you want to hear but to be honest I only changed out my illumination bulbs. Not any of the indicator bulbs. My recommendation would be to leave the indicator bulbs as halogens. Doesn't make much of a difference since they aren't on full time anyway. Ive now heard from a lot of people that have run into weird quirky issues from switching the indicator bulbs over to LEDs.

Well, I finally got around to doing the LED replacements yesterday. Did the five 194 bulbs and the one 37 bulb, all in Blue. While I had the gauge panel loose I put the three power plugs back in, temp installed the headlight switch and turned it on to see if any of the bulbs needed their polarity reversed. About half were good and I easily switched the others. I could peek inside the panel and watch the bulbs light up. Here's the thing, while the middle of the gauge panel is now a nice bright blue it seems like the panel to the left and right is dark? I did the change in bright daylight so it's hard to tell. I'm going to check it again tonight and do a look-see. Any suggestions on why the left & right are dark and the middle is well illuminated?

I am not positive. I had the same issue when I tried to go the colored route. Maybe its how the light is routed inside the cluster. Not sure though. That's why I ended up just going back to white.

Well, it turns out that the easiest thing to do is to pull the dash and radio as a single unit. Then, once cables are disconnected, you can disengage the spring clips from the backside of the dash.

I drive a lot of back roads with the dash as low as possible and black tape over the high beam indicator. Volvo/Saab(?) years ago had a blackout switch that killed everything or would illuminate just the speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. I'd love to have that. The replies below say these LEDs are dimmable. Good. Do you think the minimum light setting is about the same as the old bulbs? Thanks for the video. Good info. The dash is the same as in my Excursion. I may be goin' in!

I mean it's been quite a while since i've seen the stock halogen bulbs, but these things get pretty darn dim. I honestly never dim them past half way. Easy job, I say go for it! Just swap the illumination bulbs though, not the indicators
