In this video I have a look at a 2014 Ford Taurus that came in with the engine light on and a code P0456 for a small EVAP leak. This is a relatively common issue with these vehicles. Come along for the diagnosis! -Enjoy!

I like the way you learned how that toggle switch on the software worked while we all watched, lesser men would have sorted that out, off camera. With the ability to pause the video and go back, it was easy to see how that control toggled to engine speed, then back to purge, then vent. You made the process entertaining!

@@SouthMainAuto As a software guy, I can say that "Toggle" button has an incorrect label. At least it should be labelled "Select control", considering that it changes the setting called "Selected Control". But why stop there? It's a touch panel, so why on earth doesn't it just let you tap on the function you want, and then highlight that one to show it's selected. They really dropped the ball on this one, IMO.

Mr. O, I wanted to comment not on this video, but on your channel as a whole. Today, your channel saved me around $100 and a good bit of time. My wife drives a 2008 Subaru Tribeca, and her idler pulley went out this morning... While in the process of diagnosing this, I noticed the tensioner pulley was also making some noise, so I wanted to replace that. But to do so, you have to buy the entire tensioner. After a bit of thought, I remembered you talking in one of your videos about bearings and pulleys, and how companies usually use the same item for multiple different applications. Long story short, I took the pulley to a parts salesman that I trust, and he found a bearing to press into the pulley. So thank you for the videos you make. I am another in what I am sure is a long line of people who have learned from you.

Knowing and understanding values is so important. I k ocked out a bad ecu this week because I knew the map sensor voltage and reported pressures weren't jiving. Like map sensor by Bluetooth. Removed the sensor from the intake and plugged the hole. The scan tool still showed data like it was there in the intake, not just dangling in the engine bay.

Evap leak is the most common problem with the engine light in NY. The 2 garages I worked at (12 years in the northern NY). At least 50 percent is EVAP leaks. You have to do a check because what if it's not an EVAP. You are absolutely correct 👍 smoke test is a few steps down the line. Vent valve check then Purge valve, up here. Vent valve is the most common problem (that I have seen). Guessing maybe 40 percent off the time. But again a bunch of stuff could be wrong. Not too many times have I seen Purge valve but I have seen it. ,Lines, blocked canister ECT.. I have dumped fuel out of the canister in the past. Seen it blocked with dirt. You are on point

Fortunately I think the vent valve is the leak as I have smoke coming out of it when it should be closed.

But I my self are on the fence about this one . How do you feel about using it for non highway veicals tractors and fork lifts . Or just as a quick repair to get going and Chang the tire the very next day. One last thing I used to be a teck. I did not have a computer system that advanced . I used a combination of gages . Have you compared the peco system to very good high quality gages . Has that computer system been wrong before . Great channel.
