Great question! The foam, while nothing special to look at, does serve a purpose - the side-shield air bags for the doors are behind the foam blobs. In the event of a crash, the foam is there to direct the air bag curtain down. I guess you could remove the foam, but then you would want to either disarm the air bag system ( not desirable in terms of safety) or build a case around it that would still (hopefully) function properly with the airbags. I will say that once they are covered in fabric (we used the Duramax tweed for our walls, pillars and blobs), they look pretty good-watch our video on covering the walls, pillars and blobs If you wanna see how it turned out! Like Matt mentions in his video, it does take a few tries to get it right. it took me three attempts to cover the first foam blob, but we were able to do the second blob in one try.
