35 years in the agricultural engineering world allowed me to see the end of the “make do and mend” generation, and I’ll say a luncheon meat filter end is only scratching the surface of what some of the ol buggers would do to keep stuff a goin 😂😂😂

Your Lordship, on YT, there is a man who restores old Caterpillar Farm tractors. He is Squatch253. One day he took out the Main Journal Caps on a Cat engine, to find Beer cans that were used to shim up the Main Bearings.. Sir, you beat me to the "Greta Punch" at 14:29. Keep up the good work! Best wishes from across the Pond! Andrew D.

Well, that was more than worth waiting for to watch 👍👍👍👍really enjoyed the content,,what can you say about the old majors , simple basic engineering but so good , no blasted computer 💻 & endless wiring with ECu’s !!! Sheer heaven !!!😃what a nice crisp start up , beautiful to hear, for me the old tractors have character & charm. Then the road test, what more do you actually need, was making good road speed & nice sound, was quite envious to be truthful, thanks for another great video with your charm of presenting !👍👍😊

we had a 1956 fordson used on the family farm in Devon up to year 2000, I think father sold for 400 Pounds. We had a belt drive on it which was handy for the hay blower. One stage clutch so the PTO would stop when changing gear of stopping. the brakes were a bit dodgy. In the early 80's I was kept home form school to roll in the spring barley, I spent hours on that tractor. absolutey bomb proof.

That fuel filter fix was definitely the craziest thing I ever saw. You definitely did a very nice job getting the old major into mechanically sound condition. They were great tractors in their day. There was only one thing I never liked about them. When climbing on the fenders came too far forward and if you had large boots on it was hard to turn your foot around and face forward. Other than that they were a great machine!!😀👍👍 All it could still use is a fresh coat of paint. I hope the new owner cherishes it as much as I would. Take care my friend!!😀😀❤ Logger Al

Excellent video Lord Muck :) also what fun part seen was my late Uncle Bill & Dad Don and was fuel filter in Sediment Bowl Filter for gas McCormick International Combine and old Cockshutt Tractor could get one from International dealer close up on holiday so used John Deere also work fine to also Spark plugs need change on Combine but my used his 1968 Bombardier with 292 CC 1 cylinder Spark plugs had extra around on to Combine motor plus work till got Champions from International dealer! The size of Hex on Spark plugs was 13/16 size and threads hole were 5/8 in size to! I know something can be wild but work too amazing and trouble free! Also Lord Muck also group have you when take some motor apart or steering in Desiel motors plus hear inside on fuel tank there rattle wonder doing that and find ignition switch key in like brand new shape and already bought new key months or years ago! But blame yourself missing place it ?

Well, I've done some field and get you home fixes in the past but never had to resort to the top off a veg can for anything! Still there's always a first and I suppose when they struck her up and she ran they decided to leave it and then forgot about it. How about getting the tin lid mounted with an accompanying plaque and auctioning it off for the Border Collie Rescue charity?

Good old Fordson. That fuel filter was probably an early design flux capacitor ! I know of someone (who shall remain annonymous ) who use several baked bean cans to make replacement shell bearings on a JD4240S. That didn't go to plan either !!!!

Damn nice tractor , and a great one for a winner of a draw. I havent been on a tractor in about fifty years. We had JD tractors a big b from around 1940 an an m from about 1954. I drove the and hand cranked the b to start her. Farming vegs for a farmer in my early teen yrs. Big pay to $.75 cents an hr. Or picking tomatoes at a $.25 a basket. In a good week I made $25- $30 bucks.

I discovered this channel over Christmas 2022 and am going through the Lord Muck back catalogue and I have to say this is the funniest one I've seen 😅. Tinned luncheon meat with potatos and veg, grim and grimmer still if it inspires you to make a fuel filter out of the tin...

The difference between a mechanics head and a farmers head back in the day. Waiting until the next day to get a new filter may not have been an option especially if the weather was going to break or you're using borrowed equipment that had to be returned the next day which when I was a lad was common.
