What he really (accidentally) said was a curse word, 3개년 (3 gae nyeon) "3 bastards", not just 3개 (gae) "3 dogs" Grammar Explanation for the language nerds: 개 (gae) by itself can mean dog, but it is also a number counter (used when counting a number of things, in this case he was talking about 년 (nyeon) "years". But, 년 (nyeon) can also mean "boy". (yes, Korean has a LOT of homonyms. And also, counting a number of *years* is one of the weird exceptions to this grammatical rule because there is actually no number counter for years. This is because when 개 (gae) "dog" is combined with 년 (nyeon) it becomes "boy dog" which is technically a "bastard," and obviously it is a curse word in both English, but also in Korean. 개 (gae) is often a part of many different curse words/phrases in Korean...If you're into k-dramas, then you've probably heard a quite few variations before-- 개새끼 (gaesaeki) being the most notable phrase, which has a similar meaning to "bitch/bastard" as well. So it should just be 3년 (3 nyeon) "3 years" and without the 개 (gae) number counter or another number counter (yes, there are multiple kinds of number counters for specific things for is counting, thank you Korean language). I just really wanted to point this out because I made the exact same mistake when first starting to learn Korean before being corrected. So I just want to pass along this information so at least one other person may not have to go through the same embarassment, heh..
