Veterans should be taken care of more than any other in my opinion. Veterans sacrifice a lot that not everyone know or understand. Plus they are protecting the country and people/ citizens that to many times don't appreciate all they have been through and they have to do. Love you guys ❤️

Killing another human being damages you, some of us are better off than others. But we all need help after facing it, I've been fortunate enough to have a family that cared and did what was necessary to get me to where I am today. I cry every time I hear this song, but it helps to know that someone cares.

No Westerner I've ever seen react to this has as broken this song down as accurately as the both of you have. Thank you. I'm a veteran myself who fought overseas, and while I was there I never thought about what I was doing, I just did it. When I came home is when the problems started. Doing the wrong things for the right reasons is a beautiful summary, and I love that you said that. It's definitely about self-sacrifice. ❤ I have no regrets, and I would do it all again because someone has to.

The quote in my email signature for work describes my feelings on the subject of Veterans' affairs in the US. It comes from a president with amazing foresight, Calvin Coolidge. He was president before even WWI and had this to say..."The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten." I myself am not a veteran, but I spent over a decade working right beside our military in Balad and Baghdad Iraq and Bagram, Jalalabad, Kabul, and Kandahar Afghanistan.

“Soldier fighting for people who are hungry for power.” I’ve seen a hundred reactions to this video and your statement described every war ever fought. Yes! Fighting over oil. Fighting for power and in doing so we lose so many soldiers; some to death and the majority of those who make it home. They may be alive but are never, ever the same. Thank you both so much for allowing us to watch as you work your way through the truth told in this video.

God as a she represents his mother, daughter, sister, wife, who doesn't understand the things he did because we asked him to. He sees himself as the devil but doesn't feel he is to blame. If you don't read lips, the black dude at the end was saying "Bill, Bill, it's me Jacoby. You saved my life brother. It's o.k., it's o.k."

Marine vet here. Thanks for watching this video. We would switch to calling god a female when we were out in the field. I think it was because woman, (mother, wife) are the thoughts that bring you comfort and in battle that's all you want. We did not talk about the devil, we were the devil. I lost 3 brothers to their own hands. 22 a day is a number that haunts me. Semper Fi to all my warrior brothers and sisters, until we drink a horn together in Valhalla. NEVER FORGOTTEN USMC

Just about the best reaction and perspective on this song and video I've seen. Im 52 and not a Veteran. I was 20-21 when the Gulf War started and wanted to enlist but couldn't because of physical health reasons. But i can say i honestly dont know if i would have if i was able to. Things are so easy to say you would do something when you can't. When you volunteer for something knowing you can lose your life doesn't just take balls, it takes absolute true heart and i thank everyone that put their life on the line and the ones that gave theirs up to protect mine.

No man is made of stone. We all have individual thoughts and feelings. We have to suppress those in order to do our job effectively. As a Marine infantry assaultman I served 3 combat deployments in Afghanistan and have been forced to do things I would have never dreamed I was capable of doing, however the horrible things I was required to do to others was balanced with the good those acts accomplished for others. My conscience is clean but for others I can understand it may not be so simple.

Suggestion from the peanut gallery: I don't mean these as things you should react to. But as something that you might listen to yourself to get a bit more understanding. "Sebastian Junger: Why veterans miss war" "Now, After" (PTSD From a Soldier's Perspective" "Monster Made of Memories" by Citizen Soldier. Many of us start out on the path to take on the enemy in front of us. Most of us transition to staying on the path for the brothers and sisters beside us, and To keep ourselves between that enemy and those people behind us. Semper Fi.

Great reaction! The topic is a difficult one for people have have no experience with it. The people who's lives are taken in war live with the people who took them. Not the one's who ordered the taking. Supporting those who fight for you doesn't mean you support the reason for the fight. Take care of those willing to defend you.

I served with a guy who shot a little girl, maybe 8 or 10 years old. She was walking across from the enemy side with as much explosives as she could carry. She would have blown up him and everyone around him. So he killed her. I believe you would like Aurora’s performance of Heathens at Rough Trade East, London. She dedicates the song to “the Mother who takes care of the people who aren’t welcome in heaven.”

Hoorah to all my brothers in the comments. We served for many reasons but, when we are leaving basic training, we earned every piece of our uniforms. Pride follows after basic, then shock that the FOB, fleet, MOS or whatever that branch calls it is nothing like basic, Until something real goes down, then it is not John but Sir. The honor we earned was to defend the ones being hurt and held back from basic human dignity. Things get muddy in battle and the moral trauma is real, but even as a vet who was homeless for 6 years, I would never trade my service for anything because I know at least someone was helped by it and I only had on chance to be thee and do something. I know a lot of civilians that wish they had served and regret not doing so because they later understand what it took and as men, want to help as well.

This is a great song/video. It's really upsetting at the same time. I can not speak for other countries but here in America way more needs to be done for combat veterans. They are often discarded and if they do seek help it can seem like they are just a cog in a machine and their life means nothing because a lot of the politicians and DRs treat them like they are disposable.

I heard a Christian preacher say that he believes that the veterans of all wars suffer PTSD because their soul is not ok with God’s commandment not to kill (destroying a creation of God the father). It’s not their fault that is why they send young men, unable to have wisdom to say no. I have PTSD myself and I know I will not ever be the same until Jesus my father and savior brings me home. God bless you both.
