I explore a small forest stream in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, alongside my friend, botanist Julian Leroy.
The stream has been degraded due to human activity, yet even so, some aquatic plants and fishes continue to thrive here, in this arid, dry landscape.
Check out Juliana's instagram for more aquatic-plant habitats @caminhos desconhecidos or her KZfaq channel: / @julianasleroy

A bit of a tragedy given how it's being used for recreation, but thank you for showing the video and the impact.

Hello Tai, the cichlid at 5:12 ? Maybe a Caquetaia Species "Rio Xingu" ? Please look and compare with some photos in the internet. Best wishes, Michael

It looks very beautiful but it would of looked much nicer with all the plant life, it's a shame people have to keep trying to reshape nature to suit them selves, Thanks for sharing Tai 🙂

A delightful area. Maybe the owners will eventually realize there is more money to be made be focusing on eco tourism. That is interesting about the Hydrocotyle growing in full dry sun. I wonder if the waterline floads up that far back. Thank-you for another great video! ❤❤❤

should show this video to the land owner, that there's another world in the creek that deserves to be conserved. I love the lush mayaca

That won't bring the land owner any income unfortunately. Unlikely someone would change their mind.

This is so very sad. This old lady can’t find have the words to describe how I feel. In my 73 years I’ve watched the destruction of so many living beings…plants, animals, everything. I can’t only imagine what it’s like for you.

It's tough...but I guess later generations almost have the luxury of not having seen it 'before'...but it is up to us to try and save what we can

I can get that you want a nice bathing area, with your hammock and whatnot, however why did the remove the plants in the more out-there areas? Shouldn't people go there anyway, as there is this (damaged?) barbed wire fence (1:28)? You rip out the plants to make it a nicer bathing area and then prevent people from going there with a fence?

"Severely degraded habitat". Looks like humans already arrived.

It's hard to say what is actually "natural", landowners ripping out plants certainly isn't, but likely having many plants isn't either, because if it weren't for the human habitation close by wild herbivores would most likely be much more abundant and would have eaten the aquatic plants.
