I can really relate to Dan since he and I started hunting in the late 70's-early 80's. I had to learn everything on my own back then through trail and error. I wouldn't trade those early failures for anything, they made me who I am today!

Great Podcast. Dan is a legend and brings back a way of hunting that I grew up doing. The hunt camps and grinding on Wisconsin public land. I owe his setting up tight to bedding video's to killing the biggest deer of my life. Thanks for inviting a humble successful hunter...Dan Infalt

Dan is an absolute beast,he has changed the way I approach hunting. Pre season scouting has always been a draw but now I see things in a whole new light. Tracking plays a huge role in the way I Hunt now,deer movement plays into the Way I set up. Stand placement, Buck beds, day light movement, Dan has had an effect on every aspect of my Hunt. Thanks again for having him on,in the finger lakes region I live in upstate NY is blessed with thousands of acres public land!!!!!

Great podcast. It is definitely a fine line with the kids and you have to learn to read them and then guide them. If my kids pickup hunting or go a different direction I at least know that they have had the experience to know if it’s something they want to pursue. My oldest was the only one presented with a shot, but practiced trigger restraint and let her walk another year. Proud dad moment that he took the time to think before he took the shot.

Interesting podcast. Yes my 2 oldest bucks came from getting close first sits during the first week of bow season. And learning the game of which tree to pick is the challenge. Both deer came within 45 yards of eachother, but you would never have even seen the deer from the other stand. One was 6 year old and other was a 8 year old that I shot before 630pm on hot September days.

I hunt on both public and private in Missouri. A lot of it is big open woods, with really big hills. There's obviously thickets and tree tops left from logging in areas, and always bedding areas. I know Dan says he sat a 100 times and only sat in the same tree 5 times, but there's a couple of issues with that. Most people that hunt can't dedicate that kind of time to hunting. The other issue is this. When I find where mature bucks travel, it's generally a good spot every year. What I mean is, if I kill a big mature buck on one of his normal travel lanes, most of the time a different semi-mature to matrue buck will come in and pretty much take the exact same spot. I understand moving around when it's necessary, but I have my honey hole spots that produce each year.

About the mature buck not coming back to a corn pile after having a bad experience there. I made a bad shot on one year at a corn pile the following year I never had him on camera nowhere knowing he was still alive. Fast forwarding to gun season I set in the same stand and watched him come through the woods towards and before he got to where the corn pile had been he turned to go around it and luckily I was able to shoot him and he had the scar from where I shot him the year before

As much as Dan is “educating” he’s just as much trying to make himself a hunting hero. In it for himself. Been at that since the early 2000’s when he hanging with Andre when he was doing lone wolf tree stands. Back then that was his ticket and he was best thing since sliced bread, now Andre is the “bad guy” more things change the more they stay the same…

@rickylahey4370
@rickylahey4370 Жыл бұрын
Something about a treestand war and copying designs. It’s ridiculous, I don’t take sides. Personally, I don’t see how whitetail addictions or huntingbeast tv made hunting better. If anything it overcrowds public land and harms wildlife. No I’m not an anti, I just see things from a different perspective. They should’ve pressed Dan on how he felt for other guys by him jacking up hunting pressure where he lives by filming. The guy who now has to deal with Tom, dick, and harry coming to SE Wisconsin to play hunting beast. I’m not hating on non residents, but I don’t see how these guys can take a net profit hunting for free land while not opening up more access for guys who don’t feel like they need to film and prove they are the worlds best hunter. They all claim they can show you how to be a big buck killer in these “how to” videos which are essentially them chest thumping and pulling out a tape measure aka I’m better than you. Bottom line is get in the woods and learn your deer, Dan can’t teach you anything you won’t learn on your own.

@@rickylahey4370 I know I hunt only public land right now and the past 5 years you can’t go 5 yards without seeing a tree stand. Or you see groups of kids out trying to film. Cameras get stolen. There is no untouched spots anymore

I live in Michigan, I freaking hated it when they took baiting away. But, It absolutely positively, brought me back to my roots. As a hunter, and what made me fall in love with all of it. Made me become a better deer hunter, again. If that's possible. Lol. Absolute good thing to make hunters, better hunters. But, probably not a good thing as far as bringing in new hunters. All in all, hope they don't go back. We fail on so many levels, as far as bringing in, new hunters. So many different things we could do, to change that. I for one, am not for the youth hunt. Not the way it set up here, in Michigan. The honest, true kids, they get a nice buck, and think it's going to be like that every year and every time they go hunting. Big mistake. And then you have a boatload of adult assholes, they bring the kid along just so they can tag out one of the biggest bucks in the area. It's a fact, happens every year. Sucks in so many ways!!!!!!!!

I think the guys these days biggest disadvantage is the hype!! You have to have the best of the best gear and camo and all this exspensive stuff And social media false info is a huge disadvantage. I'm 10 years younger than dan. Growing up in the old days you hunted!! You hunted to eat. And you had the old gear and had to learn how to use it. That's why older guys are better hunter.

I really like you guys and have been following since the beginning, but I think you're wrong on baiting. Doing it just because everyone else is baiting is not a reason to bait. The same can be said about crossbows, live feed trail cameras, etc. At some point, you have to take an ethical stance in the way you hunt. Regardless of whether you think someone else will kill a buck that way; how do you want to do it? I know you talked about baiting to "save them" with Ben Rising (it sounded like he did that just to keep them on the property and not to hunt them). Either way, it isn't natural and shouldn't be promoted. If you don't agree with it, abstain from it. Thanks for doing the work you are.

Ehhh Deer habitat isn’t natural anymore, most of the stuff they eat humans plant, this is like saying hunting a bean field planted to attract deer is wrong.. I don’t see any ethical problems with baiting.. Now I wouldn’t do it because it seems like a lane way to hunt but acting like it’s morally superior to avoid baiting is just silly..
