I watched James Chimombe live at Mapitikoti Bar in Mbare back in the 80s One story I can share… My childhood best friend Alfonso Zvenyika the boxer was with me. He told me he was related to James Chimombe At the end of the concert, James was counting the gate takings. Zvenyika went over and greeted him nemutupo. James lifted up his head and immediately recognised Zenyika. He reached into the box and handed Zvenyika a few coins. True story

Am surprised my favourite songs, timeless classics HEMA & KUUYA KWAWAITA are not being talked about. Jemedza seems to be the more popular song but HEMA is in a class of it's own. James songs are unique everytime you play each it sounds different from yesterday.

Your program is very organized and enjoy to watch

If you analyse the music Chimombe churned out in the decade he lived after independence you realise what a huge loss his passing away was....One wonders's what would have been the case had he lived another decade or two..this given the fact he was a year younger than another music great Oliver Mtukudzi....How sad most musicians of his generations did not leave beyond 40 years of age. It is a fact that Chimombe's music will live much longer than he did .
