Travis looks like the goofy protagonist of a Romantic Comedy where he dates Shane's daughter, and Shane disapproves of Travis, but they eventually bond over their love for forging ancient and medieval weaponry.

The climax will be a sword fight between the protagonist and the future father-in-law, where the final blow snaps the father-in-law's inferior archaic forgery in half. Proving the protagonist is well suited to carry on the family line of forging weaponry and protect his daughter's heart.

@FortuneFavoursTheBold
@FortuneFavoursTheBold 3 жыл бұрын
@L F Yeah Damascus by itself doesn't mean superior or inferior. It's just that giving the timeframe of this task recreating a historical weapon of certain complexity, choosing damascus automatically tells you where the smith's priority is. True enough, his sword's mount quality is worse, the edge geometry is worse, the balance is worse, than the other person who made the right decision for the first possible choice. It's not damascus's fault, it's the smith's mistake. Perhaps he didn't know how to refine the hilt components, hone the edge geometry (different from sharpness) and improve the build quality. Or maybe it's because he didn't have enough time to do all that as he spent the precious time on forging from the so-called "Damascus steel", which is really just folded steel, not true Damascus, AKA Wootz steel. So in the end the folding of modern steel which was already homogenous to begin with added complexity but no actual benefit to the sword overall.

im getting addicted to these haha. i know its out of the realm and highly doubt they would ever do this as its historical but id be interested in a challenge where they have to make a fantasy blade even if its just a 1 off special for a show. like imagine telling real blacksmiths who can make accurate historical weapons "hey you got to make dantes rebellian" or "you have to make the blade used by guts in berserk" imagine their shock when the see the size of them and shapes haha. anyway this has such a cool way of presenting not just the making of such weapons but the usage of them too.

It's a shame the winners don't get to keep their weapons. If I were Travis I would love to keep the Pata and put it on my wall. It was really well built and designed. It was beautiful.

I mean they have their own forge so they can recreate it as they like, even touch up anything they thought was deficient if it's going to be a showpiece. Especially in this case he worked it down to the end. And I suppose sometimes the strength tests may leave a lasting mark, which while it is sort of a badge of honor, if you want a showpiece you may want it to be completely unblemished.

Yeah, at certain points, civilizations may have been able to make facsimiles, but imagine how long it may have taken to get just one finished product... possibly the same amount of time, or even less.
