I've been wearing Shady Rays sunglasses while riding my motorcycles for years now and I think they are maybe the best sunglasses for motorcyclists. I think they're the best sunglasses for motorcycling because of their super cool replacement guarantee which gives you up to two replacement pairs over two years if you lose or break your glasses.
There are some caveats to this program including a processing fee but even if you add up the cost of replacement processing and the initial cost of buying Shady Rays sunglasses, you still end up spending less than half of what you would buying a pair of Flying Eyes sunglasses for motorcycling.
Save 20 bucks on your first purchase from Shady Rays: www.talkable.com/x/vMU7up
I'm clumsy and forgetful and so the best sunglasses for motorcycling for me have to include some kind of replacement guarantee. Shady Rays gives you replacement protection for free. Flying Eyes charges 35 dollars extra to add it.
Shady Rays vs Flying Eyes for motorcycling is an easy competition for me to call in terms of price and the replacement features Shady Rays offers. I'm sure Flying Eyes sunglasses are an excellent product and great sunglasses to wear under a motorcycle helmet, but for my money Shady Rays is the better value.

Call me old-fashioned, but I really like my handmade-in-USA billet aluminum Gatorz sunglasses. I had to add sunglasses into the "wallet, keys, knife" category in my head (as well as "buy once, cry once") to keep from losing them, but they have served me very well. The badass image factor is a pleasant fringe benefit.

Had NO idea they cost that much. Wowch. My favorite best sunglasses are the 3M smoked lens safety glasses from your local hardware store. I buy them by the 4 pack for like $20. Thanks for speaking up on this. The gear industry has gone off the deep end. A good helmet is one thing, but KZfaq is brainwashing people into thinking full motorcycle safety gear is a must have. We can be safe without pushing brand name gear from head to toe to ride down the street. I have seen way more bikes in South America and while they mostly wear helmets, they are not in gear from head to toe. Just saying…. We buy too many gimmicks in the US.

Thanks for providing a solid option. I have a pair of flying eyes and I love them, but the cost is an issue. When these get lost or damaged, I'll probably try these out instead. With my current pair, I certainly didn't pay $230-$250 for them thanks to discounts and promotions, but I needed replacement lenses after mine were damaged and it cost another $70. I did not have the protection plan. Lastly, I had a pair of standard sunglasses that just kept giving me headaches and the flying eyes I barely feel in the helmet. Still love them, but probably won't get them after this pair.

Thanks for reviewing an affordable product. Yes, more expensive gear is usually better, but that doesn't mean it's the best choice... even if you can afford it. I lose/break shades constantly - designer eyewear doesn't make sense.

I love Shady Rays, I've been using them for a couple of years now. My Costa Del Mar glasses kept falling apart due to skin oils. I checked before I ordered these that 1) they shouldn't do that and 2) the warranty they have would cover that. They haven't let me down yet and they've held up perfectly.

Dork, I love your videos. Great content. However I think you missed the point of how thin the ear pieces are on the flying eyes. That is the most important part for me. Yes, they are expensive - and I need prescription lenses - but definitely will be worth it. My next ones will be Flying Eyes. Currently I found a pair of Revo that have decently thin ear pieces, but they still leave marks on my face. Sometimes you gotta pony up and get the good stuff.

I’m particular when it comes to sunglasses, in the sense that I have to see the world in the shade of amber. I’m an avid fisherman, and Costa makes the best amber shade fishing sunglasses, that can also be purchased in prescriptions, but mine do not fit under a helmet very well. If there is an amber variant of these I will try them out today!

Look like some nice shades. Unfortunately I require bifocals so I run helmets that have the flip down sun visor. Can't lose them and are great when going in and out of bright areas. They don't keep the dust out of your eyes as well as close fitting sun glasses but price I have to pay for being old with crappy eye sight.

Will probably stick with WileyX. I like how WileyX has included a goggle type face seal for some of their frames, but I still prioritize impact rated lenses/frames. Unfortunately Shady only has one ANZI 87+ rated model and only says impact resistant for all others.

Cool. FE looked great, but none of the tubers must have mentioned the price because I went online to purchase and said…nope. I’m also of the cheap-ish sunglass clan, as I tend to lose/break them. I wear prescription sunglasses which are pricey as all get out. When I saw the Flying Eyes recommendations from KZfaqrs I looked them up and immediately noped out when I saw the Oakley pricing structure around $400ish. I can order 4-8 pair of prescription sunglasses from Zenni for the cost of a single pair of prescription Flying Eyes, Oakley, WileyX, etc. so called premium brands. I wont cry if I lose or damage a $50-100 pair of prescriptions nearly as much. I haven't found a perfect frame choice yet with nice thin ear stems that are comfortable, but when I do that will be my sunglasses of choice. The three comfortable frames I have are kinda thick ear stems and I have to use some force to wedge them in my helmet 😁.

@merpius
@merpius Ай бұрын
@@DorkintheRoad I imagine that, in actual dollars, the difference between Shady Rays and Flying Eyes for corrective is about the same as for non-corrective. However, when that difference is $250 vs $50 that's a huge deal, while when the difference is between $450 and $250, it becomes less of a huge deal; either way you do not want to accidentally lose whatever it is. Also, generally, replacement guarantees do not apply to corrective lenses.

Anyone ever go middle of the road with pricing and wear Arclite glasses? I love mine. Awesome coverage, moto helmet specific ear pieces are great. Mine came with shade, rose and clear interchangeable lenses for all conditions. Sunglasses aren’t always the right choice. Especially in trees on sunny days when the light becomes zebra striped. They hug the face nicely, are not polarized and are ansi safety rated. I say they are a decent value. I know that shady rays sponsored the vid, but there are better choices for riding without breaking the bank.
