1) I am jealous you get to be friend with Torbjorn. 2) I really respect that you filed the axe profile when you had a huge belt grinder (I would have filed it too) and 3) I think you’re extremely brave to buff an edge with an angle grinder.

Truly delightful to watch the synergy between people forging together! I started carpentry with hand tools a few years ago. I never expected to do so much work with axe/hatchet: shaping stool/bench legs, roughing out all sorts of things, splitting wide boards, etc. Even hewing short logs to make benches. My tool is too soft to hold an edge for long and too thick to chop with little effort. I was just thinking how nice it'd be to invest in a quality tool like this one when you said you'd be giving it away. I hope it goes to someone who will get a lifetime of delightful use from it!

Great video! ive been making small knives and decorative pieces for a while but want to break into axe forging. How well does 1045 hold up durability wise over time? I'd imagine using somethin low carbon for the head and then forge welding 1080 or 1095 for the blade would be longer lasting no?

As a fan of antique tools, it's refreshing to see someone working in the old methods, making virtually everything by hand, rather than taking a modern tool or leftover bit of material and modifying it with power hammers, saws, and grinders. THIS is blacksmithing. Well done, Lads, very good indeed. Very impressive.

By Hammer and Hand All Arts Do Stand. Thanks so much for sharing. Mesmerising and inspiring. I currently work for a local authority overseeing Children’s Services, within a deprived city in the UK. Due to the terrible things I see and hear everyday, my own mental health has deteriorated to the point that I am currently on an extended break from work to recover. A big part of my recovery has been watching your videos. I am so inspired, I have decided to enrol on a three day beginner’s Smithing course, so thank you. I can’t wait.
