In this video, I hot dish a disc of silicon bronze to form a helmet bowl. This bowl is the beginning of a series wherein I construct a bronze gladiatorial helmet. The starting disc is 1/4" thick material with 8 3/4" diameter. In addition to dishing, various cold forming techniques are utilized to achieve the final shape.

Glad you’re back in action! Be sure and religiously do any PT they give you for your shoulder, and do the same exercises on the un-injured side, simultaneously if possible, body mirroring will help the injured side try to emulate the good side and helps recovery!

Murmillo and Thracian (Thrax) were the gladiators that used that helmet, the Murmillo was just a more heavily armored version of the Thrax

My brother was a coach builder and used a dressmaker's tape except for longer measurements Great for measuring around curved and round forms. I used to keep one in my toolbox also for circumference measurements in my fitting welding job Alot more versatile than a metal tape Great video 👍

Easily one of your best videos yet. Very informative as to what methods and tools you use. In the past, I’ve found myself pausing your videos so I can get a good look at the tooling you use and I have to make educated guesses. This format helps quite a bit. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

In my ignorance, i think that this is the standard process of making armor, back in the old days: an heavy doming of a very thick ingot (which joined two stages of work, the thinning and the doming of the piece), then a quick raising to adjust the shape and then adding details; what do you think about it?.

Why not raise it with thinner stock as it will thicken some? I started helmet making then delved into blacksmithing so by no means an expert. Is this for Sca or just for something else?

Let me ask a question:Why you are feeling need to do it by your hand? For example, using my hydraulic press, I can craft same thing in half hour and save my shoulder
