no fold, no clay smh
@ihcterra46252 жыл бұрын
Folding would weaken the steel and differential hardening doesn't make the spine any tougher. The reason Japanese smiths folded the steel they had was because it was low quality bloomery steel. The carbon content is inconsistent and is full of slag inclusions. Folding, compositing and differential hardening was just to compensate for the poor materials they had to work with. With crucible steel, there is no need for any of that and the forge welding would just allow scale and other impurities to incorporate, introducing failure points between the layers. Even differential hardening wouldn't make the steel any tougher in the spine. The toughness doesn't increase at lower heat treat temperature in bearing steel. It gets just as hard on the edge as a folded and differentially hardened high carbon steel and is also far tougher and far more flexible in the spine than the low carbon spine of a traditional katana. I wouldn't be surprised if the sword could bend nearly 90⁰ without taking a set. Bearing steel is pretty tough stuff if heat treated right.

"Katana", "Samurai sword" in this video is a "mistake" or "Fake" that only has a similar "shape" and is not worth calling itself a "Katana" or "Samurai sword". A "Katana" that is made by a "swordsmith" who holds a national qualification and trains the bullion refined from "iron sand" calculated in the Izumo region of Japan by "tatara iron making" according to the "appropriate manufacturing method".
