Quenched and backed off in a sand box. My hat is off to you sir. Well done!!! I see an awful lot of nicely quenched crispy hard swords that I’m sure would produce really lethal flying chunks of metal when they snap off. Probably very fortunate that few or none will see any action.

I collect things like what you have crafted, but I am simply not confident enough to try such an incredible task as to construct such a thing. I love hand crafted, Italian stilletos (read switchblades) and shuriken as well, but unfortunately the law thinks these things are bad (forget the guns on the streets...alot of drive by sword canings I guess??) and so I just don't carry them out of the house..I passed on a chance to purchase a very nice, and exceptionally rare sword umbrella too and I still regret that..but that is a beautiful and simple piece!! You are a true craftsman and metal worker and it was all done with love and pride! Bravo!

Looks awesome but there's one HUGE mistake in this video - never quench spring steel in water, it makes it brittle. You quench spring steel in 60C oil. That's why you don't see spring steel swords with a hamon, it just can't happen.

I learned this in my first experience blacksmithing, my mentor did knives primarily and also said to make sure it's an older spring if it comes from a truck because it's going to be higher carbon content 80-90 as newer ones typically are 75 at best.

Very useful for disabled/ vulnerable people for their own protection, but they need to be physically able to use it when the need arises, or else it can be snatched by attacker and used back upon them instead. But it’d be a perfect hiking tool for the wilds. I will definitely try to make one myself not for use but for the Beaty of it. Perfect creation!
