Index of operation and materials:
0:30 Forging the tip
1:12 Isolating material for the tang
1:45 Hot cutting the tang
1:57 Forging the tang
2:25 Establishing bevels
3:21 Profiling with 2x72 belt grinder (annealed off camera)
4:20 Grinding bevels with my diy beveling jig
5:00 Refining bevels by hand with higher grit belts
5:30 Hardening. For k720 critical temperature is 820°C with a 10min soaking time
5:54 Quenching in vegetable oil
6:14 Tempering in oven at 200°C for 2hr
6:30 Hand sanding from 60 up to 320 grit
7:20 Grinding secondary bevel with 2x72 belt grinder
8:00 Stropping on a piece of leather with fine polishing compound
8:50 Checking hardness with a set of HRC hardness file tester. Came just under 65 HRC. K720 gets real hard. Great steel for knives.
If you notices some of my equipment is different compared to my other recent videos is because I recorded this project quite some months ago. That's also the reason why I'm working in short sleeves!
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!
