Wonderful efficiency of movement and technique as always :) Also, perhaps it's incidental to where you have had to set up, but having the strong-but-diffuse daylight coming in from behind you makes it much easier to see detail in the metal that might otherwise be lost to glowing metal and white balance compensation.

I changed the jaws on my machinist vise and they are hot milled, mild steel. I prefer the jaws of my vises be "softer" and smooth so as to not dig into hot workpieces. I'm not totally sure about the leg vise but it seems to be ductile iron, not very hard. Thanks.

Heats tongs 15:50 uses regular wire brush to clean scale, 16:00 switches to what looks like a brass brush. I wonder if it is purely asthetic or if the transfer helps to retard oxidization. Either way I like it.
@gstongs
@gstongs 4 жыл бұрын
Andy is exactly right. I brush the tongs with a brass brush (when workpiece is slightly warm) to transfer some brass to the steel to help prevent rust. It will wear off with use but can always be reapplied. Thanks.

Good job Glen.
