Were you thinking about the modifications out of handmade shoes or the mods from kegs? For taking the test, doing the mods on kegs is open to less interpretation or opinion compared to where a handmade may have a little issue that causes the shoe to fail that’s unrelated to the modification. It’s been a while since I took the test so I’ll have to get the certification booklet.

Typically I’ll punch for a city head with fullered shoes but plain stamps will be an E head. Unless it’s specified for a contest. The difference between the two nails isn’t a lot when drifting fullered shoes. The best way to boost your skill level and confidence is just by getting out there and signing up for a contest or clinic. Join your state association, then sign up to go. You’ll meet people there that have the same goals and passion. Even if you don’t win your division your first time doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It’s fuel to push yourself harder for the next time and you’ll know what’s expected in that time frame.
