As the intro says, the video/audio is so bad cause I filmed it on my vlog camera, thinking this would be a 2nd channel vid (not that I have one, it's very secret 🤐), but the knife ended up so nice I wanted to share here. Things will be back to normal soon. Keep an eye out for more Fund Razors 👀 I've got some epic ideas brewing...

A common misconception is that hardness of material has a large factor on the ability for the metal to get sharp. This is mostly untrue. The hardness of the metal does not determine how sharp it can get, the hardness determines how long it will hold that edge for. There's an excellent video on the slingshot channel that demonstrates a straight bard of mild steel is sharpened by a blacksmith so much it can slice though tatami mats. The video is called 'Katana: The Naked Truth' for anyone interested! That being said, I enjoy this video and can't wait for the next one Eli!

Tatami mats are extremely hard to cut, but the level sharpness has almost nothing to do with that. You can take a blade right off of a 100 grit belt and it can slice through tatami like a dream with good edge geometry and good edge alignment. That being said you are right that just about anything can be sharpened razor sharp as long as it isn't very porous, check out Kiwami for examples of really weird stuff being sharpened. With steel the lower quality and less hard it is, the more likely you are to just keep pushing a burr over side to side as you sharpen it, making it feel like crap as it cuts if it cuts at all since the edge just stays a feathered mess like bristles of steel rather than s nice edge.
@BloodSprite-tan
@BloodSprite-tan 4 жыл бұрын
nothing is hard to sharpen if you have the right tools and proper ability, you can even sharpen a ceramic knife if you follow the correct technique. hard steels aren't hard to sharpen, just use a diamond stone. they are pretty easy to sharpen in my opinion. like honestly the idea that hard steels are hard to sharpen is nonsense. i'd say you'd have better luck finding an impossible to sharp chunk of stainless steel than a knife that is too hard.

Hey Eli Blacksmith/blade-smith here Helpful tip for when quenching a blade is one (depending on your steel ) preheating your oil can help the quenching go smoother and make it less likely for it to crack And 2 while you are quenching just dunk hard and hold it completely in the oil for a good minute. This reduces flame up and also gives you a better chance of a consistent of hardness Over all good job man I Love it 👍

I just recently got into knife/metal work as it is something I've always wanted to do, but never really had the motion to do. After watching you for years now I decided to just start and my good God is it so much harder than i thought, so looking at the knife you made, yeah that's really impressive

Really glad to see you back on that sick weapon grind. That said, I do miss the classic 'build it yourself' formula. You've definitely inspired the creation of projects of my own, can't thank you enough for that. Keep on!

tbh the knife selling idea is really really cool. One viewer gets a unique knife, Eli gets some cash for upping the quality of his builds, and the rest of the viewers get a video.

Hey Eli. You probably dont remember me but I lived in Eldrigde many years ago when me and my mom moved from Norway. Anyways i love watching your vids 😁 its been great time killer since i broke my femur 7 weeks ago😅 i accidently took å tumble out a window 4 meters high (13 feet) and landed on my side. I have a total of 5 fractures: my femur, wrist, pelvice and 2 fractures on my cheek. Recovery has been rough but im still going strong, watching you helps to keep me motivated😁😁 You keep being that awesome guy you are😎 hope youre having a Nice day if you read this. God bless. -Glenn

Very cool. You know, you could get a chunk of railroad rail and make your own anvil out of that. They're nice, servicable first-time anvils. Let you know what sort of shape you want, too. Shape of anvil horn, depth of the shelf, all those things are actually really helpful to know what you prefer before buying.
