Leather working, for me, has been one of the most rewarding and quick-to-start crafts I've gotten into in recent memory. If you like making stuff, I bet you'll like making stuff out of leather.

This is pretty good timing cause I need to make two sheaths for these machetes I found at a yard sale. The brand is True temper and they were issued in the military in 1944. I got 3 of them but one has a broken handle. Was wondering if you wanted the one with the broken handle to refurbish. The blade is all rusted but that's not do difficult to clean up. Thought you could make a restoration video or at least use the steel for another knife. Also you forgot to hide the URL for this video in your story lol

I remember some time ago you said in a knife video that the knife you made "wouldn't turn heads at a knife expo" or something like that. At the time I sorta agreed with you but that changed with this vid right here, damn those are some pretty knives! There's a clear "style" you developed that is very recognizable, something I still kinda struggle with. And especially with the sheaths these knifes look super professional and really well done! I also really liked the video, and I think a big reason for that is that leatherworking is something new for you and therefore for us as your audience as well. Don't get this the wrong way but when we see you cut something with the angle grinder or drill holes on the drillpress for the hundredth time then you know how it works, we know how it works, and there isn't really much for you to explain to us. But this is a new skill for you and I think it's way more interesting for your audience to watch you do, learn and explain new stuff rather than repetitive old stuff. I think that's why I liked the blacksmithing videos so much as well. (I hope I didn't word this too confusingly, lol, my sentence-structure-making still kinda works in German-mode lmao) Anyway, really nice sheaths, can't wait for part 2!

Dude i’ve been watching you for years. I’m a junior now in high school which isn’t that old but i remember being on the bus going to middle school in I think 6th grade. Either re-watch or watching your newest content. Not only what you were doing catch my eye but the mentality you have on the camera. I would watch you and always think I wanted to be as mature, funny, and devoted as you are. I think especially throughout these rough times. I’ve slowly notice how much time and effort you put into these videos. I don’t care about your uploading schedule and it not be as “it used to be.” Just you uploading, but you getting up and making videos has given I don’t think only me inspiration but i feel other viewers who’ve watch you grow as a creator/person. Through your mentality and every upload it’s given me so much push to just keep moving. Through everything. You’ve, as corny as this sounds. Have been probably the biggest impact on me in my life a creator like yourself can have. All in all I just want to say, thank you. On behalf of everyone, thank you for taking the time to make us laugh when we need us to be. Even when you can’t break a grin, I see you try and dedicate yourself to make us smile. The epitome of selflessness. And lead an example of what type of person we can be. Thank you, your hard work in my eyes, has never gone not noticed. Thank you for just being you man. It means a lot

What a coincidence! I made a knife out of an old shovel head and broken hickory axe handle a while back that was inspired by your “Camillus Carnivore vs. Axe made of literal trash” video, and ever since then it has been a "naked knife" sitting on top of a dresser. Then the day I think of searching up on how to make a large sheath for it, I see your video! Great work as always and keep up the great work. I hope to see more funny build videos from you in the future!

When you rub in leather wax, conditioner, mink oil etc, it’s a good idea to use your bare hands instead of a paper towel or rag because the warmth of your hands really helps the leather absorb the shtuff

Eli, as somewhat of a leatherworker myself, get you some of those hook blades used for cutting roofing shingles. You can find them in the same section you get the utility razors from. They are absolutely fantastic for cutting leather, and really help when needing to cut curves. Also, drilling your stitch holes is much easier but if you use the fork looking things, forget what they're called, they leave that diamond slant. The diamond slant helps your stitching look better. Totally unnecessary and just cosmetic, but it does look good. Oh and to finish your saddle stitching, all you have to do is reverse direction and stitch backwards a few spots. As thick as the wax thread is and with how tight saddle stitching is, it will hold on its own. Your method doesn't look bad or anything, just extra work you don't have to worry about. I've never had anything come loose yet. For slicking your edges, I like to use a little ratchet with a smooth metal handle. Or a screwdriver's shaft. Or just a piece of 1" round steel bar stock if you have that around.

When you finish the stitch the most common way to to it is to just back stitch it 3-4 times. Like you said the wax in the thread does a good job of holding it in. The way you did it is pretty cool though and would do a great job I think

Btw make sure you put welts on all of your knife sheaths, once that glue lets up you will cut through that thread and your sheath is useless.
