Ah yes Kansas Magic, which is more powerful than Arkansas magic. Nice review mate, this is a strange and obscure Oz animation. There are some Oz media that I don't think many people talk about like the Emerald City TV show which is like a gritty modern retelling of the story & The Muppet's Wizard of Oz which I think was the last Muppets Storybook movie they did.

This is not a sequel to the MGM film Return to Oz is a half-hour TV sequel film to the Rankin-Bass's animated TV series "Tales of the Wizard of Oz" which aired years prior to this film as in the 1960s, the Oz books are starting to lapse into the public domain meaning anyone can make an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz even if an adaptation will likely be batshit insane (noted examples: The Wiz and Oz - A Rock 'n' Roll Road Movie) but most of the time, People who do Oz adaptations unlike those i exampled like to be lazy and tend to cash in on the MGM film but mostly do so w/o the wrath of MGM's lawyers Disney's Return to Oz is dark because it's mostly true to the original Oz books, the film has the ruby slippers from the MGM film mostly as a loan out from MGM
