Episode 91 Time for the next episode of Oz Month, this time we'll taking a detour down the, not so pleasant, path on the Yellow Brick Road to talk about the cartoon series from the 90's by DiC.

I remember the Wizard of Oz series would air on Toon Disney and I would watch it at my grandparents. I don't remember much, just the opening when Dorthey clicks her heels together saying "there's no place like Oz."

And here I thought this cartoon was a fever dream I had...

8:32 Insert obligatory American Pie by Don McLean joke here.

Yeah I think it aired on CBBC back in the mid-late 90's where I watched it. I thought it was okay at the time. I mostly remember a part where The Wizard tries to escape out of his Hot Air Balloon but a giant Crow keeps putting him back in.

I think I like how you’re showing an animated persona of yourself. It’s a nice change of pace.

Thanks. Was getting tired of doing the live action segments, so I started using the talk icons more, rather than keep them exclusive to GMCT. And in a way, this new style is more of a back to basics with just me recording all the dialogue

Yeah It was me who commissioned Frobman AKA AEW of Sonic/Castlevania in Brief fame to make some images of me & Meltingman for GMCT and we decided to use them for our own channels.

Of course, back in 1990 Turner collaborated with DiC on both this show and Captain Planet and the Planeteers, as this was a year before Turner bought Hanna-Barbera (and this Captain Planet moved production to H-B- in 1993, resulting in a noticable increase in the animation quality.)

Oh MeltingMan, the good Wizard of Oz adaptation was inside of you all along!

Good GOLLY look at that art style! I really like it! I don't know why I haven't seen this yet. Honestly, thanks to you, I'm interested; the episodes actually sound well planned in its cheeky cheesy goodness.

It was a co-production with Turner Entertainment, that's why.

Joke‘s on you, MeltingMan, I actually remember seeing this show on TV as a toddler, meaning it’s *technically* not forgotten media. In fact, I‘ve been wondering if you would talk about this one since I‘ve never heard anyone else mention it. So hooray, I get to point at something in recognition for once. I agree it was probably not that good, but I actually recognized three of these plot summaries, which is more than I can say for most other shows I saw at the time. I remember seeing other stuff like Dr Snuggles and Tabaluga at the same time, but I would not be able to summarize a single plot that happened in them. And Tabaluga was actually a good show. The minds of toddlers are an enigma.

Yeah I'm kind of surprised that there's barely any other reviews on KZfaq for this show besides mine.

@@MeltingMan234 Alright, MeltingMan234, let me get this straight. On May 8, 2021, there was the first episode of Forgotten Media's Oz Month where you talked about the 1964 animated version of Return to Oz. Last weekend on May 15, 2021 (which was Armed Forces Day), there was the second episode where you talked about the Marvel Treasury of Oz Comics. And now, this weekend on May 22, 2021, there was the third episode where you talked about The Wizard of Oz animated cartoon series that ran for only 13 episodes in the year 1990. Now that I have already watched three episodes of Forgotten Media's Oz Month on KZfaq, I wonder what the fourth and final episode of Forgotten Media's Oz Month is going to be next weekend on May 29, 2021 (two days before Memorial Day of 2021 and our last day of May 2021). Well, MeltingMan234, I guess we have no choice but to wait until next Saturday and see what it is!

Gonna review Oz Kids? Basically the children of the original characters from the MGM film?

Outside my generic rambling... It's kinda weird that this show re-aired in the US on Toon Disney of all networks... Seemed like DIC crammed in a shedload of forgotten shows (eg, Wish Kid, Super Dave, etc.) solely for the fact Disney owned them back then.

Good video. Might be like justice league unlimited where they decided the last season is unimportant and just removed it, stapling bits onto the last episode. Bit of a far guess.

You should check out The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tv series/anime by Cinar. It's the closest to the first 4 books I ever saw.
@MeltingMan2343 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am familiar with that. I first saw them on DVD when the series was re-edited into 4 Films, I later watched the original episodic format. Is nice, feels like that and Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz are the closest we'll get in seeing a more faithful adaptation of the Oz Books as a tv series.
