RESTORED

2 жыл бұрын

Join in with the Restored Crew as they attempt to save this abandoned Pontiac from its destiny of being destroyed under what's left of a delipidated barn. After being reached out from a fan, the guys head to Whitewright, Texas to lay eyes on this forgotten 1972 Pontiac LeMans. Upon discovery, the team finds one of the coolest barn finds they've ever discovered. What was once a family jewel, has now taken a turn for the worse in which time is completely against it's fate. Will this muscle car live to see another day, or will it soon become rubble of a barn that's claimed it as it's own?

Of course the Restored team always impresses with your perseverance, skill, and care; but, a big component of what makes your team/family so good at what you do is the respect and consideration that you show to each other and the owners of the vehicles from whom you're purchasing the vehicles. It's evident you have kindness in your hearts.

WOW.. makes my memories come back. I got a light blue with white landau interior and roof '68 Pontiac Luxury LeMans off the Pontiac showroom floor somewhere October 1st to 12th, 68 in Memphis,TN on Summer Ave. Good Lord, I'd just turned 19, heading to Fort Rucker for advanced helicopter training. I enjoyed the car 6 months in school, Dad had it while I was in VietNam. I had it 2.5 years more when new wife took it in the divorce- and she left me with her Rambler station wagon. I'm still watching this video, what a car that was. Thanks, hope this video ends well, I can't fast forward and still write. Yep, makes me sad now.

I love a good barn find! I also feel "older" as I remember when those 70's cars were all over the road. In HS in the 80's, it was full of 60's and 70's GTO's and other muscle cars. They were hand me downs to the kids as they had no value then.

Yep, I agree! When the 1st and 2nd oil crisis hit the "grown-ups" parents traded in their muscle cars for Hondas and Toyotas. I remember back then the dealers would give cents on the dollar! So what folks did was advertise in the classified and get more money for them. So us "kids" would buy them on the cheap!!!!!!

Wow, My parents who passed away this past spring, had the 4 door version in my their garage. It needed an exhaust repair, that my father started but never completed. Sat in the garage since 1989. After my parents passed, my siblings and I were not sure what to do with it as it needs restored. So my sister and her husband took it as a project car. Amazing, its the exact same year and color as the one in this video. Even has the same tan vinyl roof. I remember when my dad purchased it used in the late 70's. We were on our way home with it and my dad wanted to see how the power was. He was so impressed with the power of the 350 V8 engine and smoothness of the drive train at 85 mph on the highway. When we arrived home with it, we noticed the engine has miss. Found one of the spark plug wires came off, yet the engine still had plenty of power. He really like that car. Shame it sat for so long, deteriorating.

Heck yeah. I really am glad that you are able to bring new life into that car. I have to help my dad with his car. 69 amx that hasn’t been on the road since 96 in and out of barns and been sitting in ours for years. Covered in stuff. The 390 was taken out and rebuilt and a 304 was the temporary replacement. 390 sadly locked up and the poor thing needs a whole lot. The car runs but I need to fix the fuel inlet on the carb because it snapped off. The wiring is trash. Mouse house and I gotta swap on a better rad hose. Runs mint though. Just need to get the fuel system fixed. And then I can drive it out to begin the repair process. It’ll be easier to rewire when it’s not tucked in the corner. And hopefully I can fix the 390. And I hope the 4 speed is still healthy. Dad says we need to swap the 4.10 gear out of the rear for the 3.73 because first gear is useless.

I live just East of Portland OR just west of Mt Hood and our roads aren’t salted. My 20 mile work commute affords me miles of rural roads to scout out fixable classic cars and trucks. If the vehicles “look” unloved I’ll stop by and ask if they are for sale. Nice pastime for a wheelchair bound geezer like me although the wheelchair part means I have to actually see a person to contact as I can’t do stairs to knock on a door. I send all my finds to: KZfaq’s Classic Truck Rescue located 45 minutes south of me. One day I’ll find and help save something good. I owe that to my classic truck that was scrapped against my will for $50 !!! NO RUST

@Justin Natasmai I did a bunch of research before selling at this price. I found examples here in the Dallas area that cleaned up and in driving condition were going for 4K - 6K. In the end it came down to wanting see it back on the road. I knew with the Restore guys it would get there and that they would document the process. The filming of it made letting go of it possible for Carrel. The Restore guys got a price that would fit into their business needs and Carrel got some great memories and video preservation of the car with the promise of it getting back on the road. Something that she desperately wants to see but knows she cannot accomplish on her own. Where the car went was so much more important than the selling price.

Hello guys, this car is a great find and is in pretty good shape . About 6 to 7 weeks ago, I pulled a 1972 Ford Maverick car out of an old garage that was in about the same shape as this car here and hauled it over to my first cousins barn and her grandson wants to restore it . I know it's not a muscle car like your find, but still a neat car, it has a 302 motor, and an automatic transmission and the doors were locked and had not been opened for years and years and the inside was in pretty good shape and the car had been bought brand new by my first cousins ex- father in law . I will see you all later, can't wait to see your car all cleaned up and back running . So take care and stay safe and keep on working on the old vehicles . 🤗👍💖💫

That should have a 30,000# break strength so it would be suitable for a 15,000# vehicle (2:1 safety factor). Stop by your local FD and see if they have some old firehose. Use that as a guard if you're strap is going over any sharp edges. FYI, tow straps will have hooks on each end. Recovery straps have loops. I carried a 3 x 30 strap with a couple of D-hook shackles in my pickup for years. Never let me down.

LOL, nowadays any 2-door with chrome bumpers is called a muscle car but it was a great save, that building looks like it could collapse any day. I own a 72 LeMans like this they are great cars. The LeMans is the exact same car as a GTO but with different front end treatment and badging and usually a lower performance drivetrain although they could be ordered with the same engines and transmissions offered in the GTO. I hope the frame is alright on this one as that seems to be their weakness. The frames are prone to rusting out at the corners especially below the corners of the windshield where water runs down the sides of the firewall and lands on the frame. I purchased my LeMans 8 years ago out of Arizona and the frame is still in perfect condition. I had purchased a 71 LeMans new when I was 18 and always wanted to relive those days.......best decision I ever made.

Not a muscle car but still worthy of being brought back to life. My Grandmother also owned a 1972 Pontiac LeMans coupe that ended up being her last car. Same color with the black vinyl top and green vinyl interior. It was purchased at J.C. Fortune Pontiac in Florida. It had a 2 barrel 350 V8 with a 350 turbo hydramatic trans, A/C, bumper guards, side impact strips and an AM radio. Unfortunately she gave it to me when I was a dumb 16 year old. I owned it for about 5 years. I sold it to my friends Uncle who ended up driving it for almost 10 years so it ended up having a decent life span of 20 years and almost 200k miles.

I was in high school, when my mother (of all people) decided it was time to get a new car...and one day, without mentioning a word, came home with a BRAND NEW 1971 LeMans Sport...she paid $2,825 for it, and WHOEVER had ordered it special, had basically 'walked away' from it before taking delivery. The thing had full rally gauges, hood tach, dual exhausts, 'posi-traction' 3:52 rear, bucket seats, TH400 transmission behind a 400 Poncho engine...she pulls up, I came out to see 'who it was', and she says, 'get in...let's go for a ride'...the thing was pretty quick, for a 'first smog-year car'! It had 140 on the speedometer, and needless to say, 'Little Old Lady from Pasadena' didn't have anything on her that day...she pegged the speedometer on the highway, just to 'see what it could do'...I was white-knuckled! Humor was when we got back near the house...I said, 'did you order it like this, or was it on the lot?' She admits 'she just saw it and liked it, and her old car was wore out'...I then replied, 'you know, that's a tachometer on the hood...just make sure it never goes into the red'...she says, 'that's a gauge?' I said, 'what you bought was a sleeper GTO...and yes, that's a gauge'...worst mistake she EVER made on cars, was in trading it 5-years later on a new 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme...uuugh.

@@UberLummox The Restore guys noticed it in the original pics I sent them. They are not "factory" but it seems those windows were all the rage back in the 70's and many dealers had them as an option. We know that Carrel's mother did not have them installed so we believe they were dealer installed.

This brought back memories of the 1971 Lemans Sport I had in college. Mine was white with a black vinyl top, blue interior, 350 2-barrel with a 4-speed. It had the PMD factory wire wheel covers. Like nearly every car I've owned, I wish I still had it. As others have commented, I've never seen a Lemans of this generation with a Landau top and porthole windows. Someone probably went to a lot of effort to do that. I wonder why?

Look forward to the LeMans running, and moving down the highway on it's own volition. It's always an adventure watching the work involved at getting these older cars running, and getting spruced up, at least close to what they where when they where first parked for the duration! I believe you got a great deal on this car, and it should be a wonderful video upcoming, to see it as we all expect!
