I just could never wrap my head around how agile the Bus was. He was a powerhouse but his quick feet at that weight was special. I can’t think of a back that was quite like Jerome Bettis. It’s remarkable that he played so long especially when you consider his running style.
@MrBiscuit754 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Miss the good old days when fans and defenders knew the bus was coming and taking passengers with him on the way through and there was nothing you could do about it. For the passengers it was a ride they had to dread.
@christopherstrebeck80474 жыл бұрын
Only guy i can think of that was even close to the bus was Brandon Jacobs ..jacobs was not quite as agile as the bus but he was pretty quick for 265lbs..i remember watching giants games when Jacobs played and thinking of the bus

Christopher Strebeck I think Jamal Lewis, Michael Turner, or Christian Okoye but none of those guys had the same agility.

Imma be a contrarian for that play. Bettis is a beast, but Brian had practically zero momentum on that play. Jerome just happened to catch him at a perfect moment. It was great for steeler fans, but no serious football critic took an iota of credit away from Brian after that play.

I was at that game, Steelers fans took over. Lots of fights too, I remember seeing security running all over the place to break up fights. Bettis gave us a bow as he walked off the field, Kirkland gave us a salute, was awesome! Also remember this was the game where Greg Lloyd was inactive due to a staph infection. Great season overall 🍻. Thank you for always uploading awesome content!
@manhalen7046 Жыл бұрын
Yeah 1997 was the end of Greg Lloyd, sadly. He'd play a full game and you'd never even know he took the field, it was heartbreaking to see. Lloyd was in his fifth season though when Cowher took over in 1992, 1997 was his TENTH nfl season, he was already an older player.

3:52 -- Dermontti Dawson!!!!!!!! Can you just imagine being a LB having to deal with the best center of his era (pulling, trapping, leading a sweep)?!!! Poor LB had no chance! Can we just appreciate the fact that despite Cowher congratulation Bettis and the announcers giving the Bus credit after that play, that Dawson is the one who makes that play happen.... from the center position.... Amazing quickness.

Jon Witman and Tim Lester both got playing time in different formations. Back when teams no only carried multiple FBs on the roster, but had more than one in uniform in the game. This Steelers team also had 3 guys in the starting lineup who were capable of playing a competent left tackle: John Jackson, Will Wolford, and Justin Strzelczyk. Plus the top backup lineman, Jim Sweeney, had multiple years of starting experience at LT. I guess karma got them back for having so many competent LTs on a single team when Marvel Smith got hurt in 2008 and the Steelers went almost 5 years without using a single player who could play left tackle even halfway decently. (Kelvin Beachum...and the first year they had him, they didn't even use him at LT.)

Juszycyk is a nobody. He's on this list why? Because he ran over a third string Steelers ILB in 2016 in a game his team LOST? Give me a break. Marginal, gimmick player on his best day, benefitting from the fact that nobody ever expects a fullback to carry the rock. Defenses don't even cover him in the passing game, because he's not a threat, barely even an athlete.
