Corrie Nye How y’all forgetting Aaron Smith, Brett Kiesel, James Farrior and Larry Foote that 2008 defense was one of the top 5 greatest in the NFL. I wish we could get back to these days used to love seeing the Steelers being #1 #2 Defense with the Ravens. HOF player if only as the "most ornery" player ever. They should show the play early in Harrison's career where some drunk Browns fan ran onto the field -- while the other players stood back waiting for security, Harrison grabbed the guy, body slammed him, and sat on him until security could catch up. He declined White House invitations (before it was fashionable) from both Bush and Obama, because they were only inviting him because his team won. Watch those highlights again and ask yourself if Harrison ever forgot the Ravens had cut him. What a character, and what a player.

One of the scariest things about Harrison was all that mass and strength packed into such a compact package. You don't want a guy like that loading up and popping you because he'll have all the leverage. I'm a Bears fan so I watched Urlacher's whole career. He was never really able to get big hits because he was so tall (6'4") he couldn't get under ball carriers. Wasn't a problem for James Harrison. He was compact enough to get under ball carriers but also wide enough to be able to easily square them up.

The only knock on Harrison being a Hall Of Famer is his late start preventing the big cumulative stats. But for a 5-year stretch from 2007 to 2011 he was the best outside linebacker in the league: 5 straight Pro Bowls, back-to-back All Pro teams, 2008 Defensive Player Of The Year, and the most game-altering play in Superbowl history- a 14-point swing on a 100 yard pick-six. Add in Steelers franchise sack leader, tied for 5th all-time in post-season sacks, 4 Superbowl Appearances, 2 Superbowl Rings, and even when he was just a special-teams guy in 2005, he led the Steelers in special-team tackles to earn his first ring against Seattle. Finally he was such a viscous hitter that he required the NFL to start trimming the strike-zone on defensive players. THEE ONLY knock on his Hall Of Fame resume is B-level cumulative stats since he was 29 before becoming a starter, but to me, that just adds to the glory of his story. The ultimate never-quit bust in the NFL Hall Of Fame. When you look at players in the Hall Of Fame whose greatness overcame abbreviated careers and low cumulative stats (Swann, Warner, Davis, etc), I say Harrison has earned a spot. Especially since his lost years weren't from early retirement, but like Kurt Warner: grinding out a starting position after years of toil.

I liked Harrison's pass rush style. A lot of DE, Linebackers are guys that have smooth fluent rushing and use their long limbs to get around people. It always made it kinda interesting to see his short stocky body and jerky movements, dipping under and running around people. He always played way bigger than he was.
