I still remember my first Jeep. It was an Ex-British Army WW2 Austin Champ, with the Rolls Royce 2.838 cc engine. The best feature for me was the 3 gear leavers. One for High and Low ratios, one for the 5 speed manual gear-box/transmission, and one for Forward and Reverse. So you could go through the 5 gears forward too get to the top speed of 64.6 mph/104 kph Manufacturers stated top speed, (I know mine did 80 mph. OK, it was down hill with the wind behind me, but I did it), or you could put it in revers gear, and go through the 5 speed manual gear box/transmission up to 65 mph backwards. Great fun, and it's one of those vehicles you wish you still had.

Cannot tell you the joy this video brings. I tore down my CJ5 to the frame 2 years ago and some days I am not sure it will ever run again. However, knowing you can pick one up out of a field and drive it helps me remember that it will rise again!

Those central Oregon hills in the summer are no joke. I had my mostly reliable car climbing out of one of those valleys, blowing AC, showing normal temp levels and then a plastic expansion tank exploded and I lost all the coolant. Anyway, that's what adventures are made of is the crazy times and the good stories.

Haha glad you guys made it. I never planned on driving it on the road until i got the power steering done and fixed a lot of things. It was just used for hunting and wheeling mainly the last few years. I didnt have much money back when i got it in 2016 so i went the cheap route on getting it drivable. Then never went back and fixed it right. It worked so didnt have the motovation.

Interesting Jeep. Saw this in CL. Body is an early 70's vintage based on the gas tank filler location and the panel over where the filler was located for tank when it was under the driver's seat in the 60's and earlier Cj-5s. Hard to say about the vintage of the frame. Yes, those frames were brittle and prone to cracking. Hard to believe they went to all that work to lower the stock steering when they did the SOA conversion. Would have been easier and a better outcome to have swapped in a saginaw steering box. Nice jeep - love the 225 V-6. I had a 69. Please keep the V-6! They have plenty of power for a light Cj-5 and get pretty good fuel economy when they're tuned and running right. I used to get 20 mpg cruising down the highway at 60. Not only did you have the transfer case in 4 high but you probably didn't have the overdrive in high. Otherwise you could have pulled the Ochoco grade doing 55 with no problems. Good luck with your new jeep!

I was short on money and wanted to get it moving. I never realized it wasnt a true 66. I was going off the vin while i owned it. I just used it for hunting and snow wheeling. I had almost everything rounded up including an open knuckle 30 front end but lost interest in it. I do love the oddfire though. Torqy engine

Just watched Casey LaDelle's video on this find! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jc-Hi5RezZOwqWg.html The thing I was always wanting in a CJ was an all-metal top and doors. The soft stuff and open top never made much sense to my application, which was SAR work. With the all-metal you get a good ground plane for radio antennas.With solid doors your gear is much more secure when the Jeep CJ had to be parked at the end of a 4x4 trail as you went backpacking in to do a wilderness rescue. Now add in the basic and easy to maintain 4x4 drive train and you really had a great thing going for you! That yellow CJ is a terrific find, whatever the price. A little sweat equity will give you a wonderful backcountry machine for years to come!

It's obviously a replacement body. The '66 would have originally had the gas tank under the driver seat. There is no indentation for the filler neck.. Also it does not have the stock tail lights. My folks had a '68 and the tail brake lights were round with totally separate back up lights. Also, the rear axle, or at least the axle shafts, are not original. The original had a hub which was held on to the tapered end of the axle with a big nut. I drove that Jeep thousands of miles through California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Trips, the memory of which, I cherish. We had a homemade fabric half top and half doors made from the full doors from a full soft top. Loved the distinctive sound of that odd fire Dauntless V-6.

15:20 European here, can someone explain the pilot car to me? Why would you need an escort vehicle there?
@BKinzey
@BKinzey Жыл бұрын
So the fire crews can park their truck wherever they need to. Often blocking a whole lane or on a blind curve. The pilot vehicle sets the speed and the lane used. People are also distracted by the fire and this helps enormously with safety. As conditions change it is much easier to have a pilot vehicle change the path than trying to throw traffic cones all over the place.
