The patrol is really popular here in Australia. Most of the competition off-road vehicles are patrols. Huge aftermarket accessory industry here also. Hope you enjoy your ride

@@quintonbartolotta merry christmas to you as well ,, one big reason for there being lack of interest on nissan's part in importing the Patrol into the USA is competition for one thing ,, 1996 was the heyday of the SUV which this falls into the category of ,,Nissan
@henkoosterhof59476 ай бұрын
@@wildcoyote34 it is difficult to compare. ,,Gas was cheap,, . Not for us. We (the netherlands) paid 4 to 6 times more for the gas. A van used to transport workmen and their tools went for diesel. The diesel was cheaper, engines could make more miles (gas 200000 km diesel 400000 km) more power to pull trailers and the weight of the tools. We even had small cars with diesel engines. So it was more a sensible choice to drive diesel. Taxes for using the road etc where higher so you had to drive more than xxxxx miles a year to make it cheaper than driving the same amount of miles on gas.
@wildcoyote346 ай бұрын
@@henkoosterhof5947 i haven't ever been outside of the US so i can't speak for anything but what goes on here , taxes here are also very low compared to a lot of other places ,,here in the USA the average person drives a truck as a status symbol , they never tow or haul anything more than household goods ,,one of the best selling vehicles in the USA being the ford F-150 ,,since 1978 it has been the best selling truck in the USA ,, there are many examples of this i can cite ,, for a lot of people here Economy is a secondary concern ,as is utility ,, most people want comfort and size , i have noticed this a lot with trucks ,, they have gotten bigger over time ,,,only within the last 5-10 years has economy become much more important ,auto makers are pushing the boundaries of internal combustion engine technology trying to make more power with ever smaller engines ,,,ME personally i would rather have a diesel electric hybrid vehicle

The Nissan Patrol with Td42 are still well sort after here in Australia , because they are so reliable and well built . the engine is built very well . Way better built than a Jeep . Farmer loved the drop side flat tray with steel frame tray with wood floor .same as the Toyota land cruiser . The Td42 diesel or Tb42 petrol. The td42 was standard non turbo these engines started in mid 80s . A later engine was a 2.8 and 3.0 lt disel turbo which were a bucket of trouble . bad head over heating ,turbo problems . In Australia Ford had a rebadged patrol call a ford Maverick for a few years

Fun fact : back in the day like 15 years ago, i bought a set of 16" Mickey Thompson wheels with 33" tires to put on my newly acquired 97' silverado. The guy i bought them from pulled up in a Patrol just like yours. They apparently fit the same wheels. But i guess you already found that out. Cool to see a patrol in the us. They are common here, many a friend of mine has has one. Great offroaders, they just rust out quickly in our conditions. Merry Christmas from Denmark

I very much like your Patrol and the BANNING of the Patrols, Utes, and Diesel Toyota Delux-Hilux/Tacoma just pisses me off as the neat trucks that other countries got, and we did not get or have a chance in hell of ever getting. I am in the process of building a Jeep Scrambler with a Cummins 4BT because every newer truck that I look at has SO much electronic crap on that it pisses me off even more! I am 65 years old and have close to 4 MILLION miles under my butt, driving anything from a Honda CIVIC CVCC to a Freightliner Cascadia with a 135inch Condo and TRI axel with custom V12 cat built for heavy haul. I like your videos especially the sound of the kitty cats coming to life. thank you and Merry Christmas!

I watch alot of offroad and camping vids from content creators across the pond and alot of them have amazing diesel SUVs and small pickups. One of my favorites is a Finnish girl with a Diesel Nissan Frontier. Its infuriating how many amazing vehicles that we will simply never see here and you hit the nail right on the head. Nissan has a great vehicle that sells very well everywhere else. Why deal with PITA USA to sell a small share.. Great vid, Quentin!

I absolutely love the patrol and wish they were easier to buy here. I'm satisfied with my frontier for now though. You can use titan parts with aftermarket parts to make an absolutely stout truck that handles well offroad.

When I first saw the GU Patrol with the coil spring rear I tried to figure out why it had such a large displacement engine when it can’t tow or haul a competitive amount of weight … with out having the excuse of luxury … and I’m still doing that … even with my much improved and expansive acceptance of vehicle design and function … but yeah product differentiation … I like the heirloom rainbow carrots better that the boring orange ones 😊😮 long story

I have done many kilometres in them. We had them for work trucks out in Western New South Wales. The 4.2 was as solid engine. Never an issue.

I’ve heard that they may have overheating issues but that’s never happened to me

The smaller capacity yes. Water jackets too small for hot climates. Never had an issue with 4.2 and got mid to high 40s Celsius out there

Yes, I think that Nissan should have imported them to the U..S. I’ve seen these before on videos from Australia and wished that they could be purchased here. I don’t go for frills when buying a pickup. I currently drive a F350 XLT but before that it was a Chevy work truck and the two before that were F150 XL’s

Having lived abroad, I am familiar with the Patrol and always wished I could have had one. Almost did: found an old one in a wrecking yard but it was too far gone with rust. I drove a 2wd crew cab Nissan 4 cylinder diesel truck in the Philippines and loved it! Do I think Nissan should have jumped through the government’s hoops? No, I think the gummit should have butted out. It works for the rest of the world, good enough for me and better than a lot of the old junk still on the road here.

The saddest part about the USA is that USA didn’t get the mid sized diesel pickups/suv’s. The sales would have been high if the USA would have built the diesel powered pickups past the early 1980s. I remember being in high school and seeing many of the Datsun pickups along with the Chevy Luv and other makers but they abruptly disappeared.
@quintonbartolotta6 ай бұрын
Its cool we get to have some of these now but i feel by the time we get them most have already been used up

Americans didn't really want diesel engines back then. Chevy offers a 2.8 diesel in the Colorado and canyon and they are dropping the diesel option for the upcoming next generation because of the low sales.
