Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.bbtv.com/collections/forg...
Thanks to Milkor USA, I have a chance today to do some shooting with both the M32 and M32A1 rotary grenade launchers they make for the US military. I'm using 40mm chalk training ammunition, with some steel targets at about 75-85 meters. In live fire, it's quite clear how much of an improvement the M32A1 trigger is over its predecessor!

Because all the cylinders must be cocked at once. If it’s not done in one fluid motion, you have to index the whole mechanism and start over. Loved this weapon system, but between the weight and the load time, it just always made more sense to use the M203z

Shooting through a regular sized window at about ~150ish meters is more or less it's intended accuracy (low-pressure). That said, between it's payload and fire rate, it's also perfectly capable of "enlarging" any opening by brute force and dumping at least one round inside with a 3-4 round salvo (on a regular concrete or flimsier construction)

In a way, the agonizingly slow and gentle arc to target is part of their charm, allowing you to admire your handiwork in the same way you might appreciate a well thrown football or frisbee or balled up Enlisted Efficiency Report that you accurately loft across the room into the trash can. Something he doesn't mention is if you short crank the cylinder, meaning you don't wind it all the way to full tension in one try, you have to unwind it with the button and try again. In order for it to work you have to fully rotate the cylinder in one go. If you don't get a good grip on it you can't crank it halfway, stop, then crank it the rest of the way. And you can't crank it halfway and load 3 rounds either. It's gotta be one complete rotation, all the way around, in one go. And I'm surprised he didn't say anything about it because I know I saw him short crank it at least once.
@HunterHerbst

yes sir. the BLOOPER TROOPER TOY 1969. during WEAPONS FAMILIARIZATION CLASS in survival school, got to shoot it once, along with the MATEL TOY M16 & other WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. got lucky and hit the old car body target dead center. the MARINE gunny dude was impressed, because i was a lowly NAVY dude. the M14 on the long range in the middle of a down pour was a good test for all of us. had to lay in a deep puddle and shoot ALL the ammo, before we could go to our tents. then the march through knee high water was just more MANHOOD testing. lol.

There's no reason you couldn't design a 40mm moon clip, but where would you keep it on your person? It'd be like having a giant bundt cake pan on your belt, banging around, getting caught on stuff, grenades falling off... I could see an application for use in a defensive position, but wouldn't you rather just have a Mk.19 in such a situation?

Laws of thermodynamics says it must, but the speed of firing, oppenness to air, and lower total energy (less heat per firing) must surely mean it cools faster than it heats.

They stay fairly cool. For instance, a Mark 19, which fires a slightly longer 40mm round at higher rates of fire, doesn't need a replaceable barrel like other machineguns do. They don't fire fast enough and don't use gas systems that seal in the gas + heat, if I'm not mistaken. I fired plenty of 40mm when I was a Marine but don't fully remember their operating principles.
