Adventures With Purpose

3 жыл бұрын

Former mayor of Cornelius Ralph Brown missing since May 16, suffers from dementia and has not had his memory or heart medication since he left his Cornelius, Oregon.
His daughter, Laurie Saunders, said during a news conference that she spoke with her father the night he went missing shortly after 9pm and that he wasn’t sure exactly where he was.
He told her he was “literally in the bushes,” and that he might be near a golf course, but couldn’t give her more specific details. He also asked if people were out looking for him.
She told him to wait for a call from his son, who was going to go out and find him, but Brown didn’t answer the phone after that. And nobody has been able to find him, even though hundreds of people out there helping with the search.
This series documents Adventures With Purpose's multi-day search for Ralph.

Brown is 76 years old, about 5-foot-10, with white hair and blue eyes. He's also missing the tip of his index finger.
His car is a dark blue, 2014 Nissan Sentra with Oregon plates.
Anyone who sees him or his car is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503-629-0111
There have been a few sightings reported, but none were substantiated, said Daryle Brown, Ralph Brown’s son.
Daryle said his parents were in their home on May 16 when Brown stood up and said he was going to his “other house.”
Ralph has early-onset Alzheimer’s symptoms, which leads to confusion. He no longer has a driver’s license and has not driven a car in more than a year, Daryle said.
He drove away from the home in the 600 block of South 12th Avenue in Cornelius, Oregon.
There have been no location pings on his phone after 10:25pm that evening, and no communication from Brown in the time since he’s been missing.
There have also been no charges to his credit card.
More than 200 volunteers are still helping in the search, including former students, friends, and even strangers.
Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.
We are humbled by the opportunity all of you have given us to help in the search for answers as to what happened to Ralph.
The AWP Movement would not be possible without your support, helping us travel the US offering our services for FREE to families searching for their lost loved ones... Thank you!

I am probably the closest to Ralph out of most of my family members besides my dad and grandma. If you guys need anything let me know! Appreciate the efforts trying to locate Papa Ralph. He is my hero, and he is missed beyond belief. I just really want closure, and you are giving us hope that there might be some coming soon! Thanks a million guys!

When people have dementia you cannot mention give them leading questions like are you near a gulf course because your just gave them a 50/50% chance of guessing one way or another. We as medical professionals never ask a person with dementia “are you having chest pains” because you can get a yes when in fact they are not having chest pain. We simply ask them “Are you have any pain” if they say yes than ask them to point to where. If they are not having pain they will be unable to point where and you will know they don’t have pain. Leading questions result in false answers.

My dad had dementia and Parkinsons's, and passed away at the age of 72. He always told us that he wanted to go home, even though he was at his house. In his mind, he didn't think he was home. He thought he was somewhere else that was like his home, but, this home he was at was not his home. You could not talk him out of it, but, you could use humor to distract him. Luckily for us, he was not allowed to drive anymore. His family will never know what he meant by saying he wanted to go home. No one will ever know his frame of mind when he made that statement. Watching a loved one going through dementia is difficult on the whole family. Hug those you love. You never know what tomorrow holds.

I have cared for dozens of dementia patients 24/7 in their own homes. When the dementia gets more advanced they go back in time. When they say they are going home it is to a property they were brought up in or lived in with parents or family when they were youngsters, or their first home they had when they got married. They can remember these properties but not the one they are currently living in. I had a chap who couldn’t recognise his current home even though he had lived there 25 years. He kept asking if his mum and dad were coming to Sunday lunch he was 83. A warning to anyone with family or dear ones who have dementia please ensure they don’t have access to any vehicles at their homes. It is extremely dangerous for them to be driving they can go blank and don’t notice intersections or stop signs etc. They get lost and everything looks foreign to them even if they have lived in the same area for many years, they cannot recognise any landmarks. They are also very keen to walk back home even if it is 200 miles away they will set off not registering which direction they are going in or what town or county they are currently living in.

My heart goes out to any family that is going thru this this heartbreaking disease!! I truly understand what it's like, my sister in law just against my mil's wishes tricked her into signing a paper and put her in a nursing home.. we were doing everything we could to make sure she could stay at home.. her memory wasn't that bad, now it is but it wasn't then.. it's amazing what stress does!

@@hampter_gaming404 yes, there are a few different types, it’s crazy and each type of dementia can cause different symptoms in each person, My Uncle had to keep the doors locked with the keys in his pocket so my Aunt couldn’t get out as she kept trying to go home, she was going back to her childhood home, it was good in a way as my other Aunt still lived in the house they grew up in, she only ever made it there on her own once thankfully, she just got she didn’t know anyone My granddad on the other hand was really funny, he never said a curse word in his life but oh my he cursed nearly all day every day it was funny hearing him say it, we weren’t used to it, he went from 1 minute knowing who you were to not knowing then back again, he used to get the newspaper under his arm and head for the door saying he was going to the toilet 😂, he was away back to when they used out houses 😂

It is always a bummer when there isn't (solved) in the title. However, the information is always valuable, and likely to lead to a good end. You all are doing the most important work. You and the whole team are the best. Wishing Dan finds his passions, and hope his story reflects all of the great things he helped AWP accomplish. Doug, you are doing great so far. Aside from a focus being on the background occasionally (if you were filming, and excluding the blurred on purpose times of course), this is great work. You are definitely a great team member. Keep it up.

I have taken care of dementia and altzeimers residents. Ralph said he was going home and he meant he was going to his parents at his child hood home. I don't know how many people have said to me I'm going home and I would ask (Where's home and they would tell me.

You guys are such an inspiration & just amazing human beings. Thank you for everything y'all are doing to help bring closure to these families. I've said it before living where I do I would love to get involved in helping with cases like this. I live right at the beach but we also have a lot of creeks, rivers, lakes, & ponds. Since we're also prone to hurricanes we get hit hard & incure flooding which at times swallows cars & the occupants even though they know not to attempt driving through the flooded roads. My sister in law is a marine biologist so she already has some diving certifications & would be all on board to start a search & rescue/recovery team with me once I'm able to get my diving certs needed & there are plenty of schools locally... now just need to save up the $ for it. Blessed be to you all & stay safe.

Is Dan no longer working with them? I love all these guys and all the people who work with AWP. I'm just curious because I have not seen Dan. I haven't gotten to watch in awhile so I'm kind of behind. I've just been worried about the toll it takes on all of them but especially Dan since he was so young. Again just curious. Thanks!
