This is why I stepped away from a sports media career. I remember being told as an intern in 2011 “it’s all about takes. Right or wrong it doesn’t matter. Say whatever will get people to click” That’s the job. You have to have hot takes to try to keep people interested. I stopped watching ESPN in 2007 just because I realized was slowly becoming what it is today. Old crusty white dudes talking shit about professional athletes while stuffing their face with carbs.

Anyone see any parallels between Sean Taylor and Jerome Brown? Two former hurricanes who died way too young, had some personal and legal issues at the U and in the pros but we're both maturing and being more positive people when their lives were cut short but all the media focused on was their shortcomings and misbehaving in their younger years.

What bothers me is their refusal to apologize. Cowherd, Mike/Mad Dog, Tony K, Wilbon, and even Skip. Cowherd is the worst offender because he continues to get it wrong. There are literally video compilations of him saying foul s**t about an athlete, only to look foolish when the facts come out. The problem is, not only does he refuse to apologize, he acts like he never said it.

The media was wrong on so many levels for disrespecting Sean Taylor, his family, friends and his fans. The U is clearly a brotherhood and I wish them success. I was born in the early 80s and they were the best team when I first started following college football in the 1989 season. I had the privilege of seeing both Sean Taylor and Santana Moss in an NFL game. They both had great performances vs the 49ers in October 2005. I was in the Army and stationed in Virginia, so a buddy of mine (from Fort Lauderdale) went up to Fed Ex to watch a Redskins game. Sean Taylor intercepted Alex Smith, Santana Moss scored at least one touchdown and a rookie Frank Gore scored a late TD for San Francisco.

You should never judge a person on how they look or how they dress or whatever the circumstance. People judge just like that. I never meet the young man but you can tell he was raised right by his mom and hada great family. He just wanted his family together and to take care of his mom and everybody. Plus he had a beautiful cuban woman that was his soulmate and those two belong together forever as well as a beautiful daughter they had together. But evil had to come along and break that dream for his relationship with his girlfriend and to have more children and spend the rest of their life together as well with his mom and siblings. I'm a 49er fan and I think Ronnie Lott is the best safety ever but you take him out of the equation. Sean Taylor would be the best safety ever not even close

Asking media to apologize is like asking a politician to be accountable. As I recall in the Duke lacrosse "rape" case the only person in the media that apologized was a female Duke alum (who had been a victim of rape) who worked for the NYT or the Atlantic (something like that), but everyone else hasn't said a single word of apology and the shit that went on with that case is even more damaging than the shit they said about Sean Taylor. Just disgusting.

I wish this was put in The U Part 2 Documentary because it was so disgraceful how Pardon The Interruption, Cowherd, Mike & the Mad Dog, and others showed no remorse without even figuring out all the facts to how he was killed, and when they finally got all the facts after the fact, none of them would even apologize, which shows how weak they all were to do that and wouldn’t even own up to their mistakes.

This may be a video that's over 7 years old as of my comment today, but not much has changed since ESPN and others hung Sean Taylor's name out to dry. Crazy part is guys like Cowherd and all the other talking heads still are going as strong as ever, influencing people still in 2024. Other than Taylor's death itself, that's the other tragedy here. And per usual when someone is wrong, you never hear much of anything. "Colin Coward" should be his real name.

Vilma and the other hurricanes have a lot of nerve crying about how they are prejudged in general. Every player, past, present and future, that habitually taunts, trash talks, hits a rival player late, out of bounds, or unnecessarily roughs while wearing the team uniform represents ALL players, past, present and future. Turn down the volume on the "ghettometer" or The A.L.A.N (Act like a N...) and just maybe people wouldn't think of their players that way. Because for over 30 years now, the U's players have been living up to the billing.

@@yungwun2751 No other players from "other schools" have so thoroughly embraced the emblems of thuggery and THEN complained about their image... Show me where I am wrong? And you sound like a tadpole coming back with that.

Hated this coverage… Sean seemed like a good family man, like his friends and family all say he was, and the media- Mike Wilboun specifically- did him dirty…
