"All who live here are temporary residents but the portraits presented today will be held permanently in the White House collection for all the ages. And so beginning today the likenesses of President William Jefferson Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will take their place in a line that began with George and Martha Washington."

STORYLINE:
In an emotional East Room ceremony, former President Bill Clinton and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday unveiled their official White House portraits.
Clinton said he was honoured that his likeness was joining those of other chief executives, though he added it made him feel "like a pickle stepping into history."
Senator Clinton called the experience "daunting."
Current President George W. Bush praised Clinton for his energy and achievements in office, before adding that the rest would be "in fine bookstores shortly."
Clinton's long-awaited memoirs are to hit the bookshelves next week.
The oil paintings are both by Simmie Knox, a former sharecropper and the first African-American to paint a presidential portrait for the mansion.
The ex-president is depicted in the Oval Office, standing in front of a desk.
His wife has her hand resting on a chair.
