An American…Bush2, Clinton, Bush41, McCain(even in losing a couple chances to be POTUS), Obama..They tried to do right for their nation not themselves. They knew the office was bigger than one man and respected it’s traditions and hand power to each other with simple notes in the Oval Office desk to their successor. CIVILITY and losing that ego and pride to admit some things in their Presidencies were wrong. But were done for American and the idea that freedom should be for ALL OF MANKIND. Miss men who loved their nation over their office knowing the most they could be there for was 8 years and their success after their 8 years in the Sun as well as their failures would forever be looked at by the picklocks of biographers.

I can’t believe how divided we’ve become. After watching Joe Biden, Obama and George Bush, three politicians with polar opposite positions come together and speak about how great McCain was for his bipartisanship and never allowing identity politics to take him over. All I see in the comments is bashing and exactly what each speaker was trying to warn us of. I finished watching all of the speakers, both Democrats and Republicans inspired. The comments of the people, not so much.

In honor of John McCain, I am admitting my errors in misjudging the character of George W Bush. With benefit of hindsight, I can see that he is far more introspective, and decent than I gave him credit for. As a progressive, I cannot say that I agree with his politics, but I can admit that he meant well for America & is far more admirable a leader than I gave him credit for, especially compared to the present stain on our great country.

That's very kind and it takes a lot to retrace or go back on a stance we've had once. You are demonstrating the very thing that most people are lacking, and what has led us to the place we're in. The ability to listen, to be open-minded, to even be wrong. Everyone is so partisan now that they view everything through the lens of a political party. I'm 38, I registered to vote 20 years ago as an Independent. I firmly believe that the echo chamber everyone chooses to dwell in, combined with partisanship and the inability to be wrong is why we are in the society that we're in. Kudos to you. I wish everyone would stop sipping the Koolaid, be it red or blue, let go of their egos and start thinking for themselves instead of being told what to think.

I remember sitting in front of the television with my mother and father having just watched George W. bush defeat then Senator John Kerry and how angry and disappointed i was. But over the years of bush's presidency i never felt the lashing of his presidency nor did i ever feel like the country was divided or the extreme hate, bigotry and separation of country as i feel now. Looking back at the past and now watching George W. bush deliver an amazing speech/eulogy for a great senator, i realize how much respect i have for this man and how much of the character and genuine spirit this country was moved by. I really enjoyed listening to all the speeches. This is the old kind of politics i was raised on. Sadly today this is not so. A president that cant even form one inspiring speech or sentence. Were better than this!

I've always loved George W. Bush...I haven't always agreed with him, but I've loved him and because I knew his history, watched the debates he won to become governor of Texas, and saw the diversity of his cabinet as president, I never let the media sway me into believing he was a stupid, evil man (PLEASE KNOW, I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM, AND I DID NOT SUPPORT A MAJORITY OF HIS PRESIDENCY-I'm making a point). He is a good man, a smart man, an artistic, funny guy and he was villainized outside of just his politics. The same was done to Obama, although he remained much more favorable in public opinion. The biased news reports, the slanderous accusations with no merit, the partisan vitriol is something we all actually have control of. It doesn't need to be Democrat vs Republican; in a democracy, it SHOULDN'T be. I'm glad that people have slowly recognized W for who he is. Obama and W are both very likable, charismatic men and there is no reason for hatred against either of them, no matter where your politics are. Stop basing your vote and you opinion on political parties. It's evil, it's what is wrong with this country. I registered to vote 20 years ago when I turned 18, and I registered as an Independent. Even in 1998 I knew better than these shenanigans.

The guy bungled every speech and wasn't the brightest, but he was a man of basic decency and character. He took his job seriously instead of golfing and tweeting all day. He believed in democracy and the ideals of our founding fathers. He had the best interests of the country at heart (whether his approaches were misguided or not). He actually gave a f*ck about the outcome of the country instead of just using the title of President as a mere notch on a disgusting narcissist's belt. You would think those things would be basic requirements for a president, not even worth mentioning... but sadly, today it seems they're not.

America lost a moral compass. But we shall move on & forward. Not back to a perceived time of greatness, but with eyes to tomorrow, mindful that as a still young nation we can only strive to be even better than we currently are. To learn from our past mistakes, to resolve inequities- wherever they are found. An, to do so with an eloquence of leadership missing from today. We need leaders who inspire, not criticize. Leaders that recognize that we are only as good as how we treat our weakest citizen. And a willingness to sacrifice what we want- for a future arriving at what we need. In the end, we are a sum of our parts. A house divided will not stand, as observed by Lincoln. Let us trade partisanship for true citizenship, and pull together as one. Your children- and theirs- will thank you for it. Set the example as if it all depends on you. It does.

It takes a lot to retrace or go back on a stance we've had once. We need to start demonstrating the very thing that most people are lacking, and what has led us to the place we're in. I wish everyone would stop sipping the Koolaid, be it red or blue, let go of their egos and start thinking for themselves instead of being told what to think.

also watching the Obama time at the podium, when he made a joke everyone liked, and George jr. was laughing while leaning toward Michelle Obama, everyone lighthearted at such a time and leaving all difference behind. Watching that , and this, makes me beyond nostalgic for when people had class. I sure miss that.
